What's not to love about an autumn wedding? The warm colour palette, the rich textures... we could go on and on! When Jayne & Stephen started planning their wedding, they dreamt of bringing that warm autumn wedding vibe to life. Inspired by the season, they chose tonal colours of rust, marsala, and a muted blush, which were dotted throughout their special day at Ballydugan Mill, along with dried flowers that fit the design perfectly! The exquisite imagery by Kalie Reid Photography tells their wedding story.
Jayne and Stephen first met when they were at high school but that wasn't quite the start of their love story. Jayne fills us in, "Stephen and I went to school together although we never spoke much. I think we might have been Facebook friends at most. I went to university in Scotland and kept in contact with a friend who also went to Scotland. We met again four years later at a mutual friend's wedding and we met up three weeks later and the rest is history."
The proposal happened while the couple were on a romantic weekend away. "We always go to Stephen’s granny and grandad’s house in Donegal for weekends away. It’s so beautiful, right on the beach in Portsalon. We went for a walk along the coast. As we walked the beach, an unknown lone dog started following us so I threw a stick, the dog never left us as we were the only ones on the beach. I could see Stephen getting frustrated so climbed up on the rocks at the far end of the beach, thinking we could get away from the dog. As he got down on one knee the dog jumped up onto the rocks and started to bark. A very memorable time!", Jayne reminisces.
The ceremony took place at the beautiful Tullyallen Presbyterian Church, Armagh.
Jayne's wedding ring was her very special 'something old' as was her late grandmother's wedding ring. "It suits perfectly by chance and it’s lovely to have something that reminds me of her as she died just after Stephen and I met."
After the ceremony, the couple and their guests made their way to Ballydugan Mill in Downpatrick for the reception.
The bridesmaids' perfectly mixed and matched dresses were sourced online from Next, Object and ASOS. We love the rust hues!
Jayne's fabulous gown is by designer Indiebride London which she sourced at Archive 12 in Belfast. Jayne did her own hair and makeup for the day as well as her mum's make-up AND the bridesmaids! What a talented bride!
An autumn celebration was always on the cards for this pair. Jayne says, "I love Autumn so the colours had to be warm and inviting. These colours are in our hair, as we are a family of red heads. The feel of the day was cosy, our venue had fireplaces lit to keep our guests warm."
And the venue for this happy day was Ballydugan Mill. Jayne tells us,"I immediately fell in love with the venue as I work in restoration and conservation and the mill was restored by the owner over 12 years. We met the owners and just loved the intimacy of the mill and the history in it. The thing that really got to me was that the dance floor is original from the 1700s and I'm a sucker for history."
Such gorgeous photos for the wedding album! "Our photos were important as a memory to us and Kalie did such an amazing job as she always does."
Along with family and friends, Jayne & Stephen added so many personal handmade touches to their day. Their flowers were collected and dried over the 6 months following the wedding, the bride designed and printed stationery, favours were a project with Jayne and her mum, and her sister Laura made their dream wedding cake.
As for the advice Jayne would give other brides, "Get lots of beauty sleep!" she says. We totally agree!
The couple plans to spend a few months travelling around Asia, Thailand and Indonesia for their honeymoon - bliss!
A big thanks to today's couple, Jayne and Stephen, for sharing their gorgeous autumn wedding celebration with One Fab Day and to Kalie Reid Photography for capturing the magic of the day.
