A Sophisticated Boho Christmas: Sarah & Andrew's Winter Wedding

Tankardstown House was the perfect backdrop for this chic winter wedding.

While a boho theme is often associated with a summer wedding, today's real wedding proves that rules are made to be broken and exceptional taste can make any look work in any season. Sarah and Andrew's wedding is a lesson in thoughtful wedding design - they managed to take a boho look to their Christmas wedding in the beautiful Tankardstown House and make it work beautifully Dried floral arrangements given an icy makeover and Instagram-worthy Christmas trees filling the space, the couple created a winter wonderland with a contemporary twist that is truly unique. We're delighted to share it with you  thanks to the gorgeous images perfectly captured by DKPHOTO.

Sarah and Andrew are a true example of modern romance: "We connected online and went on a blind date that finished up over whiskey sours at 4pm and the rest is history," they told us. "When you know, you know!"

Andrew chose to take Sarah to one of their favourite places to pop the big question and it was every bit the old-school romance... "We were in Castle Leslie and we went for a walk around the grounds to the other side of the lake," Sarah told us. "It looked so picturesque that I went to take a photo and when I turned around, Andrew was down on one knee holding up a beautiful diamond band. I was caught completely off guard and can't remember a word he said but it was perfect."

The couple wanted to have a day filled with fun - a true celebration of their love and the beginning of their new life together. "The main thing for us is that everyone, including us, had fun," they said. "We didn't want to stress about anything in the lead up to or on the day. It was a celebration and we wanted to enjoy every minute of it. Both Andrew and I said that we felt like we were at a great wedding, the cherry on top was that it was ours!"

Someone clearly had been thinking a proposal was on the cards and was ready with a great suggestion - it was Sarah's Mum who brought up Tankardstown House: "I'll forever be grateful my mother suggested it," Sarah told us. "We love the country house vibe and it was decorated immaculately for our Christmas wedding. The Orangery was the perfect venue for our low-key ceremony then it was transformed for our reception. The staff there are incredible and made us feel so welcome, and so at home, every time we visited. If you're thinking about having your wedding at Tankardstown House, do it!"

While it was a Christmas wedding, Sarah and Andrew's vision for the wedding was far from traditional. There was a strong boho vibe shining through in every element, starting with Sarah's gorgeous silk wedding dress by Amanda Wakely, which she got in Myrtle Ivory, paired with our faves - shoes are from Loeffler Randall. Andrew looked suitably sharp in a suit purchased at the iconic Louis Copeland's in Dublin.

The Orangery was the location for their winter wedding with an outdoor feel. Sarah and Andrew chose to have a humanist ceremony under the stunning chandeliers and acres of greenery swags overhead. It's such an unusual and striking look, taking the new love of dried flowers to another level for winter. We're blown away! "The look and feel stemmed from the incredible dried flower cloud that Pretty Wild created for us. It was ethereal, romantic, and really captured the feeling we wanted on our wedding day. The whole day was relaxed, fun, and just magical."

As for special details, Sarah and Andrew's wedding was full of personal touches. "My dad presented me with a framed print with the lyrics of Elton John's 'Your Song' after his speech, which still makes me tear up every time I think about it. It was so thoughtful and it will always remind me of that day. I also had a denim jacket made with my new married name 'Mrs Pitcher' printed on the back that I wore during our first look photos as a surprise for Andrew. It's something I'll have on to for years to come."

The couple chose The Bugle Babes to perform in festive red outfits for their guests as they arrived at the drinks reception. While Spring Break kept the party going into the early hours, with a full dancefloor from start to finish!

When it comes to advice, it'll come as no surprise that this fun-loving couple says that trying to avoid the stress of wedding planning is difficult but a must. "Don't stress, don't get consumed by the planning, remember what it's all about and enjoy every minute," they say and when you see the results of their work, we'd be inclined to listen.

Thanks so much to Sarah and Andrew for sharing their stunningly sophisticated bohemian wedding with us all. It was such a treat and so inspiring! And to DKPHOTO for sharing his gorgeous photos with us of such a beautiful wedding day.
