Earlier this week we shared with you Katherine and Thomas' dreamy vintage wedding film and today we're super excited to share their full real wedding by Paige MacPherson. Not your average wedding, Katherine and Thomas exude exceptional vintage style, with genuine vintage and heirloom details at every turn of their wedding. Katherine gushes..."Everything had a meaning or a story behind it. It was Texan with shabby chic touches." Let's take a look...
Dreamy bride Katherine tells us their suitably romantic love story..."We were both studying abroad in Southern Germany. We finally met during a field study in Berlin, in the middle of Alexanderplatz. Days later, we continued the trip to Prague. Thomas asked me to meet him under the clock tower at 8pm and join him on a photography walk around the city. We met, shared a simple dinner from the open market in the square then set off walking, talking and falling in love. We walked around old town, across the Charles Bridge and up to the Castle with sweeping views of the city. Just as we looked out to the view, fireworks started going off above the river. Of course, fireworks were going off in our hearts as well. It was then that we both knew we were at the beginning of something beautiful."
Later in their relationship Katherine found herself living in London working on her master's degree, while Thomas was working for a company on full-time assignment in Singapore. When they joined each other in London for Christmas, and both sets of parents flew in too, Thomas seized the opportunity and proposed.
Katherine remembers..."All six of us boarded the Queen Mary II for her Transatlantic crossing in late December departing from Southampton and arriving in New York City. About halfway through the voyage, on a formal evening just before an invitation only captain's reception, Thomas proposed in the grand lobby in front of the beautiful main Christmas tree. Later that evening at the reception, the navigation officer learning of our exciting news personally delivered the exact coordinates and location of where he popped the question in the middle of the ocean! Three days later, we shared the news when we arrived in New York harbor."
Like something from the movies...
Both lovers of times gone by and authentic vintage styling, Katherine and Thomas' wedding was always going to be something that little bit special. To begin the day Katherine got ready with her girls, and then joined Thomas for a super sweet first look.
Katherine's wedding dress dates all the way back to 1958, when her grandmother bought it in a boutique in Texas. Now the dress has been worn by three generations, first by Katherine's grandmother in 1958 then her mother in 1982, then lastly (for now) the beautiful Katherine.
Heirlooms featured throughout the day with Katherine carrying a lily of the valley bouquet tied together with a vintage lily of the valley hankie passed down through the family, while Thomas' tuxedo and wedding band were first worn by his grandfather in 1947 wedding.
The intimate outdoor ceremony was held at the wonderfully shabby chic The Prairie by Rachel Ashwell, with Katherine walking down the garden aisle to La Vie En Rose and guests wearing a sea of pastel perfection.
The bridesmaids also wore authentic vintage outfits. Katherine tells us..."All bridesmaids wore authentic pale pink vintage dresses that they found in vintage shops across the US. My maid of honor wore a bridesmaid dress originally worn at the mother-of-the-bride’s wedding with only slight alterations."
A natural creative Katherine hand painted watercolour stationery for their invitation suite and did all of her own calligraphy.
Katherine also baked the main wedding cake using an old family recipe and with added help from her mum, and maid-of-honor who decorated it.
To complete their incredibly personal vintage wedding Katherine and Thomas added a handwritten note of appreciation in dainty envelopes to each guests place card.
How adorable! A beautiful birthday cake for a beautiful bridesmaid...
Once the celebrations were over Katherine and Thomas then drove away into married life in a 1958 periwinkle Cadillac.
A huge congratulations to you both and thank you so much for sharing your hugely inspirational wedding day with us all. A massive thank you also goes to Paige MacPherson for sharing her work with us. To see more from Paige MacPherson visit www.paigemacpherson.co
