There’s no season better than winter for bringing loved ones together, getting cozy, sipping mulled wine and celebrating love. For couples who adore this season too, today’s shoot shares how to perfectly style your winter wedding using the colours of the festive season.
The words from the traditional holiday tune The Holly and The Ivy served as the inspiration for this winter wedding shoot created by California-based, destination wedding photographer Ashley Noelle Edwards that brought together vendors from across the globe to Castlemartyr Resort in the woodlands of East Cork. Photographed two days before Christmas both indoors and outdoors, it features classically beautiful attire for the bride & groom, lush textural blooms, dreamy calligraphy and a metallic cake masterpiece.
What a dreamy stationery suite! Meilifluous Calligraphy created this masterpiece, complete with hand-calligraphy, a custom illustration of Castlemartyr Resort, wax seal and vellum quote insert.
The pretty dinner place-cards feature fine details such as gold ink, gold key charms and velvet ribbon.
We can't stop swooning over this Georgian antique emerald ring!
Jill Wild crafted a perfect winter bouquet comprised of velvety red roses, white amaranth, Christmas rose, winter berries, ivy, and more.
Photographed on real Fuji film, Ashley chose this medium to create images with a feeling of warmth and nostalgia that is often felt at Christmastime.
With its long sleeves and dreamy beaded lace details, the ethereal gown by Claire Pettibone was the perfect choice for this winter inspiration.
The team chose the original entrance to the 800 year-old castle on the Castlemartyr property, which is a lovely and historic white door for the ceremony site. This romantic setting is perfect for exchanging vows with an intimate group of friends and family. If you look low to the ground, you may see a little surprise door for the fairies! How magical is that?!
The wedding archway was overflowing with ivy, holly berries, and white amaranthus.
Hairstyles by Dana created a perfect plaited hairstyle for the Bride, while Linda McCarthy and Lizzy Desmond from MakeUp by Lola in Cork created a classic romantic look.
Pearl-encrusted heels by Bella Belle Shoes graced the Bride's feet as she danced with her handsome Groom in the incredible garden maze that is one of many incredible features of the Castlemartyr Resort venue.
We love how the winter arrangements feature shades of deep red and emerald to represent the holly and the ivy.
For an extra dash of Christmas charm, the team added a yule log to the table setting. This is such a simple idea, but it brings a little bit of winter magic to the tablescape.
Ashley tell us that the beautiful surroundings of Castlemartyr Resort provided much of the inspiration for the shoot. "We had the great pleasure of photographing the cake in Castlemartyr's spectacular gold dining room, The Bell Tower, which is especially beautiful at Christmastime. The entire resort is spectacular on any day of the year, but there is something truly unmatched about a Castlemartyr Christmas from the gorgeous cranberry-orange-spice scent in the air of mulled wine to the multiple Christmas trees decorated around the property."
Wedding cakes don't need to be white - your cake is a great place to introduce a little colour and sparkle to your winter wedding, so have fun with it! Hand-crafted sugar roses adorn this metallic gold cake, expertly made by Tara of Broken Spoon Cakes.
Such gorgeous winter wedding ideas, don’t you think? Big thanks to Ashley Noelle Edwards and the talented team for sharing their work with us today!
