Nestled within 150 acres of private gardens, lakes, and woodlands in Co. Offaly, Gloster House is a magnificent Georgian home at the foot of the Slieve Bloom mountains.
Built in 1720 and attributed to one of the most important architects of the period, the house has been lovingly restored over the last 14 years by its owners, Tom and Mary Alexander, who are opening the house and gardens to a limited number of weddings and private events.
The impressive front façade of the house overlooks a series of Italianate terraces with fountains and formal gardens. On entering the house you are met with an amazing double height hall with elaborate baroque plasterwork overlooked by an equally spectacular pillar-lined gallery.
Gloster House has capacity to seat up to 180 guests in one indoor space. The Banqueting Room is a large light-filled garden room with a conservatory attached.
In addition, there is The White Chapel, soaring to over 30 feet high, which can be used for ceremonies, and as a unique space for late night dancing.
The house is not a hotel or commercial venue, it is a private family home where you can hold your special day in the atmosphere of a country house party, completely private for you and your guests. No two weddings at Gloster House will be the same.
The Gloster House philosophy is to be as flexible as possible to allow you to personalise your wedding so that your important day is unique and just as you would wish. Within the house, gardens and woodlands there are many options for the location of the wedding ceremony itself, the drinks reception and the wedding dinner, or indeed for smaller dinners or functions on the day before or the day after the wedding.
Gloster House is located 6 miles from the town of Birr within easy reach of all parts of Ireland.
