Every girl fantasises about doing a "Marilyn" - the iconic image of the beautiful blonde trying to maintain her dignity in the famous white dress is gorgeous and timeless. So why not get the look on your wedding day?
Here's how to get the look:
Start with the dress - this short, ice white number is from Amsale and is actually called the Marilyn. The Birdcage veil and beaded flower come from Brendasbridalveils on Etsy. Spoil yourself with the Jimmy Choo silver strappy sandals available at Net-a-Porter, while the white satin bag won't break the bank - it's from Faith.
Take makeup inspiration from Mad Men's Joan Holloway
- Face: You'll need a matte-look foundation in a pale colour - the aim is to create a peaches-and-cream complexion, followed by Lancôme dual-finish powder to keep skin matte. Use a cream blush on the apples of the cheeks - smile to figure out where to put it, - good cream blushes include: MAC Blushcreme (Posey) or NARS Cream Blushes (Penny Lane or Gueule de Nuit).
- Eyes: To get the 60's look - use black Dior liquid eyeliner in a flick on the top lid. Use a strip of false lashes on the top.
- Lips: You can choose to go more natural or for a strong red, depending on how confident you are feeling. Essential to the look is a good lip line - make sure the lip liner matches your lipstick colour. A good strong pink-red is Laura Mercier's Mistress.
To get the just out of bed, tousled curly Marilyn look takes a bit of time:
- This will only work on short, bobbed hair and takes about 30 minutes, using a blow dryer, hot rollers, mousse and molding cream.
- Apply mousse to damp hair and part to the left. Using a medium radial brush, blow dry the top, back and sides under.
- Using hot rollers close to the part and along the back of the head. Style your hair using your fingers and molding cream. Piece the ends using the molding cream.
