A Carnival-Themed Wedding in Lithuania: Aušra & Valdas

Giant dandelions, tango dancing and fabulous style

Aušra & Valdas are a Lithuanian couple living in Ireland. While Valdas was ready to propose after just six months, it took Aušra a little bit longer to say yes! But finally, the couple returned home for their romantic, stylish and offbeat real wedding in the spa town of Birštonas. With glamorous style, unique details and a fun carnival theme, this tango dancing couple gave their guests the celebration they were waiting for. Dublin-based photographer, Odry Photography, made the journey to capture their special day.

Valdas pursued Aušra on Facebook by sending her really long messages, but the bride was having none of it initially! “I never believed in love stories like this, so I didn’t respond to it for half year, then I just sent him my phone number, he rang me and I met him at a restaurant for dinner.”

Valdas proposed to Aušra, not once, but twice! “The first one was just half a year after meeting him, it was way too short a time for me. I met him on the 1st of June 2012, he proposed on Christmas. I found the ring on the Christmas tree and said no! The second one was in the summer of 2016 in my home in Lithuania. He believed I couldn’t say no if I was beside my mother!”

Aušra's knitted ceremony cover-up looks beautiful with her blush dress.

These oversized dandelion stalks set the tone for Aušra & Valdas' unique carnival-inspired wedding.

The couple adored being surrounded by their guests on their wedding day, as Aušra tells us, “Every single person around us looked like the happiest person I’d ever seen. All those we love deeply became a part of us.”

The bouquet, the hair, the dress, Valdas' shoes - this couple didn't hold back one bit with their wedding day style!

Aušra has some words to live by for wedding planning, “Do not plan your day – celebrate your day! Wedding coordinators will plan for you.”

The couple say their wedding planners made their day not only special, but stress-free too. “Carrot Inc made all decorations personal to us, everything was hand made.”

The couple’s 14-year-old daughters, Meda and Austeja took part in the celebrations.

This lantern reception instillation is so fun!

The couple had a colourful balloon release to kick off their reception.

Aušra had one word in mind throughout the planning, “The most important thing I was always thinking about was – cosy.”

The couple didn’t just leave the dancing to their wedding day, “We are Argentinian Tango dancers, so we will go to Milan for our honeymoon to Zotto Tango Academy”.

Oh I have a feeling that was a fun wedding to be a guest at! Thanks so much to Aušra & Valdas for sharing their day with us - and to Odry Photography for capturing it so beautifully.
