Every couple has their own story, whether it be a classic tale of friendship first or childhood sweethearts or something a little more unique like today's real wedding couple Laura and Paul. Laura and Paul met online, fell swiftly in love and within months had decided they never wanted to be apart. Adorably, their quick engagement follows in the footsteps of both of their parents who each fell madly in love and got married without a second thought - only to each have long blissful marriages. To celebrate their romance Laura and Paul threw a colourful wedding party in Walcot Hall and invited Dotmoxee Photography along to capture it all...
Like many couples these days, Laura and Paul met online. But unlike most they fell head over heels right away - and decided to get married within the year. Laura explains their swift engagement: "We met in a very contemporary fashion...through an internet dating site. We got engaged 7 months after meeting and married 11 months later, so it was a bit of a whirlwind romance. We knew very early on that we had found something special, and we were very eager to get married and celebrate finding each other and building our future together. Both sets of our parents met and married very quickly, so it must have been in our genes."
Smitten with each other, Paul's proposal to Laura wasn't exactly a surprise, but it was absolutely perfect for this loved up pair. She tells us: "We had talked a lot about wanting to marry each other, so the proposal was no surprise...especially as I gave Paul the engagement ring to give me when he felt the time was right! Being a jeweller, he understandably didn't want the task of choosing a ring on his own for me. He proposed on my birthday with my grandma's engagement ring. We then headed to London to visit best friends for a weekend of heavy celebrations."
What was most important to Laura and Paul when organising their wedding was that it was an honest reflection of their style, and that the budget didn't get too crazy. Laura explains: "We both love handmade and vintage things, so we had this in mind when we planned our wedding. We got family and friends involved making things as much as we could, without losing sight of what best reflected our taste. Eclectic and colourful, no matching colour schemes or formalities, just a feast of colour and quaintness. We knew this would keep us and our guests relaxed and up for cracking celebration." Sounds good to me...
To host their eclectic patterned wedding, Laura and Paul knew they needed somewhere special. Laura explains why Walcot Hall was most certainly the one: "Walcot Hall is quirky vintage, with no pomp and pretence. A faceless hotel was not for us, and this venue made you smile and want to look round every corner. The reception room was a large grand ballroom, but painted bright turquoise! Bold and unique, the perfect backdrop for our day."
The elegant and simple ceremony was also held at Walcot Hall, with minimal décor letting the natural beauty of Walcot and Paul and Laura's heartfelt vows take centre stage.
A lover of bright colours and florals, it's no surprise that bride Laura chose an alternative floral patterned wedding dress for her day. The dress was bought online from a vintage Etsy store, and I think you'll agree suited the day perfectly.
To reign in on their spending Laura and Paul made a conscious effort to do as much DIY as possible, and asked their loved ones for a helping hand too, as they explain: "Everyone got involved and contributed to the handmade aspects of the day. Everywhere we looked we saw all the lovely things our friends and family did for us to make it that extra special."
Don't you just adore Walcot Hall's little tin chapel? Adorable, and the ideal backdrop for some alternative wedding portraits.
To reflect their style and tastes the turquoise ballroom was decorated with bright flowers, kitsch patterned table numbers and origami bird place names made by Laura's hen party girls.
As a real treat for guests Laura and Paul made their own homemade flavoured gin. Paul's mum and aunt knitted bunting, whilst Laura's mum and her friends baked up a storm on the cake table - which were topped with hand knitted cake toppers made by Laura's sister. Love the subtle knitted décor theme!
To end the night, one of Laura and Paul's nieces sang an impromptu song (bringing bride and groom to tears!) before everyone headed back to the unique on-site accommodation of yurts and gypsy caravans.
Huge congrats to you both, and thanks so much for sharing your gorgeous colourful wedding day with us all. A big thank you also goes to Emilie and John Paul at Dotmoxee for sharing their work with us. To see more from Dotmoxee head over to www.dotmoxee.com
