Vintage Glam at Cloughjordan House: Carly & Aodhán

Burgundy, black, and vintage floral accents took centre stage at this romantic celebration.

Outrageously stylish with lots of rustic details and a hint of old-world glamour, today's real wedding proves that there's no need to stick to a singular theme on your big day - this couple, Carly & Aodhán, effortlessly blended a handful of styles! Their early Spring wedding at Cloughjordan House wedding featured stunning bridal style inspired by the bride's grandmother, a moody but oh-so-chic burgundy, black and blush palette, a barn portrait session, and a gorgeous rustic reception, all of which are captured wonderfully by Louise Scott Photography. We're loving every little detail of this vintage glam-meets-country house charm celebration!

Dublin couple Carly and Aodhán met in 2014 after being set up on a blind date by Aodhán’s cousin Aoife, who was a mutual friend of the pair. Carly fills us in, "We met in the Stag’s Head pub in Dublin’s City Centre. We had a great time but I'm afraid the fairytale didn’t start there, after some very early cold feet! It wasn’t until we bumped into each other again, some months later that we decided we should definitely go out on an infamous second date, and the rest as they say is history!" She adds, "Growing up, we knew the same people and frequented the same bars etc., our two younger sisters were great friends since their early teens, so there were loads of reasons why our paths should have crossed, but they never did. It really was a case of, when the timing is right, the universe created a winning team!"

The pair said 'I do' on February 21st, 2020, just three weeks before the first Covid-19 case in Ireland. Carly says, "we feel so lucky."

The proposal happened in July 2019 while the couple were on holidays traveling the Amalfi coast. Carly reminisces, "We had just reached Sorrento, where my grandparents had enjoyed many of their summer holidays. It was early morning and we were getting ready to go to Capri for the day when the song ‘The Island’ by Paul Brady came on and Aodhán got down on one knee and proposed with my Granny’s ring." She adds, "He had planned on waiting until we got to Capri, but the moment was so perfect, with the song and the view of the island of Capri from our hotel veranda. It was another chapter in our fairytale."

Carly's show-stopping, long-sleeved wedding dress, as well as her veil and epic reception cape were all chosen at Covet, with help from owner and sister-in-law Aleana (whose fabulous wedding you can also see here!) Carly tells us, "My incredibly talented sister-in-law Aleana O’Shea owns and runs Covet Boudoir in Powerscourt Townhouse, Dublin. The whole process was so exciting, enjoyable and special because it was with Aleana."

She completed her bridal look with her granny's drop ruby earrings, a rose flower crown and a gorgeous cascading bouquet, filled with velvety ruby red roses, inspired by the bouquet her granny carried on her own wedding day.

Aodhán also had some help on the style front as his pal friend David works for Remus Uomo. Carly tells us, "he helpfully guided us with his expertise when it came to the seasonal suit selection and accessories."

Carly made it to the church on time thanks to Cloughjordan House's infamous (and dotey!) green Volkswagen beetle!

We're in love with these burgundy and marsala Jenny Yoo bridesmaids dresses, which Carly also sourced at Covet.

The couple's ceremony took place at St Michael and St John’s Church, Cloughjordan in County Tipperary. Their mass was performed by Fr. Pat Greed who Carly describes as "an absolute gent." She also adds, "The church was really special to both of us, and all of our nieces and nephews had a role in the wedding, which was so important to us."

When it came to planning their wedding, the couple wanted to achieve a "no fuss, fun and love-filled day!" Carly adds, "The main priority was to not lose sight of the reason we were getting married, and that was our love for each other. It was important to us to have all our family and friends there and having fun. We wanted a relaxed party atmosphere but with delicious food and the drinks flowing."

The pair were eager to show their guests a great time so opted for a three-day celebration at Cloughjordan House, starting with an intimate rehearsal dinner the night before, and ending with a fun day-two BBQ complete with open fires, live music, board games and "a random table quiz which took the sting out of the hangovers!"

The couple tell us that the layout of Cloughjordan House helped them to achieve the laid-back atmosphere they were hoping for. "Cloughjordan House was the only venue we went to see. We absolutely fell in love with it from the minute we walked through the doors. Peter, Sarah and Jessica were so warm and welcoming and we absolutely loved the vibe of Cloughjordan House. It was the perfect mix of what we both wanted, Aodhán loved the Asado and party vibe, and I loved the house and the fact that the food was seasonal, grown in house or sourced locally," Carly says.

Were loving the Irish table names - Gáire, Sonas and Grá!

Long tables were topped with arrangements of Spring garden flowers, burgundy taper candles and blush napkins, topped with tasseled place cards.

Carly's super-talented Mum made the couple's wedding cakes - a traditional fruit cake (her Granny's recipe) and a delicious lemon drizzle.

For wedding favours, guests were gifted mini bottles of Teelings Whiskey and sweet wildflower seed packets made by the bride.

Love this unique wedding guest book idea!

Carly's advice to engaged couples is to try to, "go with the flow, as best you can" and to "enjoy and celebrate every step along the way, it makes the build up so special. We celebrated when we collected the engagement ring, when I picked up my dress, when we picked the suits, all these little steps in the planning were a huge part of the enjoyment for us both. Don’t sweat the small stuff, no one will notice and the most important thing is that you are all together to celebrate and have fun. Everything will work out in the end."

After the wedding celebrations, Carly and Aodhán went to Tenerife for a week. "It was the most perfect break, we completely chilled out and just chatted about all that had happened."

Thanks so much to Carly and Aodhán for sharing their gorgeous Cloughjordan House wedding with us, and to Louise Scott for providing the beautiful imagery! Be sure to click on the gallery below to see more from this incredible celebration.
