The real wedding we're sharing today is the intimate and beautiful celebration of Danni and Damien. Overspilling with stylish inspiration, we are graced with a moving ceremony at Dublin City Hall and a fun-filled reception at Roberta's. Not forgetting to mention a killer bridal jumpsuit and an abundance of tropical florals! We are beyond excited to share their story, along with their city wedding film - which you'll find here! Danni tells us that she first met Damien through work. "We both work in the same job but in different roles," she says. "For years, we had never really met or chatted, but when we finally did, as cheesy as it sounds, it was love at first sight!"
Damien popped the question on a family holiday to Spain over Christmas. "On Christmas morning we went out to the balcony of our room to exchange presents," Danni remembers. "It was on a cliff edge and overlooked a spectacular sea view. As the sun was coming up for the day, Damien got down on one knee and proposed with a beautiful antique ring from my favourite jewellers."
Danni and Damien tell us they had planned a wedding with 150 guests for June 2020 when the pandemic hit. "We were forced to postpone our original date in June due to the first lockdown, and then had months of uncertainty wondering if our new date would go ahead," Danni tells us. "We reduced our original guest list from 150 to 50, managing to keep everything else the same and thankfully hold on to all of our suppliers."
Danni describes their wedding as, "such an incredibly emotional day. We tried to stay positive and hope for the best, but having to constantly adapt to new restrictions was so incredibly stressful."
A few days before the wedding, the government announced that Dublin would be going back into lockdown. "We only got confirmation 24 hours before the day that our wedding could go ahead," Danni says. "We made it by the skin of our teeth. The relief of walking down the aisle that day is a feeling that I will never forget. Having everyone that we loved in one room to celebrate our marriage was out of this world. The excitement created the most incredible atmosphere for the whole day and night."
The couple's two children, 3-year-old Eli and 1-year-old Jude, served as page boys. Aren't they adorable!? Danni tells us, "As much as we wanted to have our two small boys involved in the day, we really wanted the day to be about myself and Damien as a couple, as we spend most of our days being busy parents. It was so lovely having a day to celebrate our love and friendship."
This couple's top priorities for their wedding from the beginning were, "that guests wouldn’t have to travel far, and would be well looked after with great food and drink." Danni also adds, "fantastic music throughout the day and a party atmosphere."
Danni tells us that she and Damien always knew they wanted a city wedding. "Dublin was the obvious choice for us as we are both from there. Neither of us had actually ever been in city hall but could tell from the pictures and by word of mouth that it would be perfect. It’s just absolutely stunning and a beautiful landmark in the city. It’s the ideal place for the first dance, a champagne reception and has beautiful lighting and backdrops for photos."
The couple tells us that music was hugely important to them. "The acoustics in city hall is incredible. We had the Dublin Gospel Choir sing at the ceremony, and Damien's friend, Richard Bohan Martin, is a singer-songwriter, so, as a surprise, he sang with Dublin gospel Choir for our first dance after the ceremony. This was a really special moment and our kids joined us."
Danni's jumpsuit is by designer Georgia Young Couture from The One by Sinead Corcoran, while the overskirt was created for her by Anna O Alterations. The result, we know you'll agree, is drop-dead gorgeous!
Danni tells us that her Mum, unfortunately, couldn’t attend the wedding, as she's in the advanced stages of Alzheimer’s, but the couple were keen to have her represented on the day. "I asked the florist to add Forget Me Nots into my bouquet, and, instead of wedding favours, we made a donation on behalf of our guests to the Alzheimer’s Association of Ireland."
For the reception, the couple was keen to avoid anything too traditional. "We are both big fans of the Press Up venues in Dublin, particularly Roberta’s," Danni says. The vibe, style, interiors, food and drink really ticked all of the boxes for us. When we found out that you could rent it exclusively, we knew that we had to have our reception there. We didn’t even view anywhere else."
The layout at Roberta's didn't allow for a full band so the couple had to think outside the box for the evening entertainment. "We decided to have an amazing singer called Hannah Stockwell Quinn sing live with her partner after dinner, followed by a disco with Sing Along Social. We had seen them at a festival before and absolutely loved them."
Danni's advice to engaged couples is, "do it your way, don’t feel the need to conform or please other people. Enjoy the planning and prep as much as you can, because, when it’s all over, you’ll surprisingly miss it. Your photographer and videographer are one the most important suppliers, choose them wisely as your photos and video will be a lasting memory of one of the best days of your life. We couldn’t have been happier with Michelle Prunty and Ronan from Amare Stories, and how well they worked together."
Danni and Damien were planning to spend their hoenymoon on the Amalfi coast, but had to cancel their trip due to Covid travel restrictions. "Instead we did a night in the Merrion Hotel, Dublin, and three nights in Ashford castle. It was an unforgettable experience and one we would totally recommend. We were treated like royalty in both hotels!"
