There's something supremely sophisticated about a tweed suit, so we're delighted to see lots of grooms going for this look lately, possibly inspired by the covetable costumes in Netflix drama The Crown! Based on the practical, outdoorsy garments traditionally favoured by British aristocracy, the heritage look works particularly well for autumn and winter weddings, and if you're tying the knot on a country house estate, all the better! When it comes to tweed groomswear, the possibilities are endless - the effect can be edgy, dapper, relaxed, or eccentric, depending on how you style it! By way of inspiration, we've rounded up some of our favourite tweed looks, as worn by real grooms. Enjoy!
1. Real groom Gavin kept it simple in a fetching petrol blue two-piece by Louis Copeland & Sons, accessorised with a jaunty contrast bow tie.
2. We love the combination of royal blue and burgundy in real groom Kevin's three-piece tweed suit. The burgundy tie is the perfect match!
3. Real groom Paul channelled mid-century aristocracy for his wedding-day look, which comprises a three-piece tweed suit, crisp white shirt and paisley scarf worn as a cravat.
4. Grooms who favour tweed often plumb for dark colours, but real groom Brent turned the trend on its head with his soft beige three-piece suit. He used a dark bow tie and pocket square to differentiate his look from that of his groomsmen, which is a handy tip for grooms who fancy an element of uniformity!
5. Real groom Jonny ensured that his groomswear look fitted perfectly with his rugged coastal ceremony setting at Mussenden Temple, located on the cliffs of Co. Derry. He was well protected against the elements of the North Atlantic ocean in his tweed three-piece, and we love the hints of autumnal red, finished off with a dried flower buttonhole.
6. Dapper groom Paddy sported a three-piece sage tweed suit finished with a rustic brown bowtie and pocket square and a cheerful bunch of florals as a buttonhole.
7. A natural companion for kilts, tweed is hugely popular among Scottish grooms, and this charcoal and sea green combo is one of our favourite kilt looks to date!
8. Real grooms Dennis and Ben wore the same shade of grey tweed on their wedding day, but added variety to their looks with contrasting ties and waistcoats.
9. Groom David looked dapper in his navy tweed three-piece suit which he paired with a dainty daisy boutonniere, a navy knit tie and a metallic banjo pin.
10. We love how this groom styled his grey, three-piece tweed suit with a Nehru-collar shirt - it really gives the look a modern edge!
11. If head-to-toe tweed sounds a little overwhelming, you can always mix and match your pieces like real groom Conor, who paired his blue-grey tweed waistcoat and blazer with black slacks.
12. These exceptionally stylish grooms each wore a three-piece suit and tie on their wedding day, but avoided the matchy-matchy look by choosing differing cuts and colours.
13. Real groom Cian chose a charcoal grey tweed suit for the big day, standing out from his pals who wore blue check suits by Diffney. We love the pop of colour in the mustard ties which were the perfect match to the bridesmaids jumpsuits!
14. Proving that tweed needn't be traditional, real groom Richard chose a two-piece tweed suit in a festive plum shade with contrast piping for his big day.
15. We love how this groom styled his pals in mismatched tweed suits. The groom's muted green ensemble is a personal favourite!
16. Accessories are the key to this real groom's look - as Dan's wedding was around Christmastime, he and his groomsmen added a wool scarf for a bit of extra warmth.
17. Tweed and print rarely go together, but this real groom found a broad check with a hint of burgundy, which he echoed with a berry bow tie.
18. The groom's navy tweed suit was purchased on the high street. His quirky shirt completes this entire look and vibe, along with his contrasting pocket square and brown leather shoes.
19. The groom's choice of ensemble truly reflects his personality and artful side with this sophisticated suit. His tweed jacket was styled with an Irish teal wool waistcoat, and brown trousers and topped with the most important accessory - his grandfather's pocket watch.
20. Jim was effortlessly dressed in a Louis Copeland & Sons tweed suit, open crisp white collar shirt and black patent shoes.
21. Real groom Stephen chose a tweed three-piece by Magee 1866 for the big day and dressed his groomsmen in complimentary three-piece suits by Benetti. What a stylish trio they make!
22. For his stylish and intimate cinema wedding, real groom Phil rocked a merlot shade tweed suit with contrasting tweed waistcoat, and the cutest socks we've ever seen, which you'll just have to check out here!
