Prepare to be inspired by the cool blue, colour palette that Chris and Jane chose for their wedding, it really reflects the vibe of their celebration at Tullylagan House Hotel. From the pale blue handmade bridesmaid's dresses, to the stationery and the groomsmen style, the couple brought in touches of beautiful pale blue that perfectly matched their calm approach to their big day. You'll love the images from Campbell Photography that just radiate cool, calm charm...
Chris and Jane met during their very first week of university, they were just friends for six years before getting together!
For the proposal, Chris came up with a very romantic surprise. Jane told us all about it and it's just so sweet... I was told I was being treated to a week in Co. Kerry in February, something I was really looking forward to as Chris was working in Scotland at the time. However, on the way there Chris took the road for Dublin airport and before I knew it I was standing in front of the Spanish Steps in Rome! That evening, Chris had booked us into a little restaurant. I was wondering why he wasn’t eating much, little did I know he had an engagement ring in his pocket. However, things went a little off-course when a couple from my home town were seated at the table next to us! So the proposal was postponed until we got back to our hotel, where I was presented with Chris’ grandmother’s engagement ring. The ring is engraved with the date Chris’ grandparents were engaged, 14.02.46, exactly 66 years before Chris proposed to me. Our engagement is easily the most romantic experience of my life.
Chris and Jane wanted Chris' son Matthew to feel especially comfortable, so they asked him to share best man duties with Chris' brother.
Chris enlisted Matthew's help in decorating the wedding car as a surprise for Jane. The couple didn't hire a car, but chose to use their own. Chris used netting across the bonnet and wove flowers into it. Such a clever idea and one for the DIY creatives out there!
Chris and Jane chose St Patrick’s Church in Dungiven to say I do...
A well deserved drink to celebrate for the newly married Chris and Jane.
When it came to picking their venue, Chris and Jane had a few things that needed to be part of their big day. Firstly having beautiful gardens as the backrop to their reception was important to them and a space that was large enough for Chris' son, Matthew and some of the bigger kids to skateboard and play frisbee. Tullylagan House Hotel ticked both boxes. Admittedly, the weather played a big part in being able to use all that wonderful space... Although I tried not to get too hung-up on the weather in the weeks before the wedding, I really was so thrilled it all came together in the way I had dreamt.
While the boys look suitable dapper in blue and navy, Jane's beautiful bridesmaid dresses were handmade by her Auntie Katie - stunning!
While having their friends and family pitch in wasn't a conscious decision for the couple, it ended up that way organically...Our cakes were made by our good friend Dan at Man Made - his baked goods are just awesome. Music at the mass was by Chris’ virtuoso viola playing cousin, Michael, and the Best Man sang and played the autoharp while I walking down the aisle.
The venue was also the perfect space for Chris and Jane to create their dream wedding that was personal, relaxed, comfortable and fun for their guests. To make sure each guest knew how glad Chris and Jane were to have them there, the couple made personalized welcome cards for each place setting...We wanted our day to be about us and our links with our wedding guests. It was so important to us that each person knew we appreciated them being there. One way we did this was to write a personal message to each person on their place setting, usually an in-joke or something to spark a memory of a fun time we'd spent together. It was a surprise to everyone as they took their seats (usually this part of a wedding is quite reserved, but not the case at ours – we got such a buzz as we waited outside the banqueting room listening to the laughter coming from inside as the guests read their place cards and the place cards of their neighbours) and people seemed to be touched with the extra effort we had gone to. Such a sweet idea to welcome each guest!
I love the mix of deserts for their desert table. Not to mention the cheese boards that came later - yum!
Jane and Chris knew they'd want to spend as much time as possible with their guests, so they worked with Campbell Photography to make sure they were able to. And they have a little advice for couples planning their own weddings...Don’t lose sight of the most important fact – that you are marring the person you love. It’s easy to let yourself get hung up or stressed out with the preparations or during the day with things that don’t really matter when you fully consider this fact. Remember that if you are happy and relaxed then your guests will be too. Most importantly, enjoy and cherish every bit of it because it really does pass far too quickly.
After their big day, Chris and Jane spent three weeks traveling around Cuba! What a way to kick off their marriage! Congrats, you two!
