Ok so it's officially cold and dreary this morning, so we have to share a beautiful real wedding to perk us all up! Luckily we have just the wedding to do that. Cáit and Niall met by chance, thanks to Niall's persuasive friends, and even though there was some translation problems (Niall had difficulty pronoucing Cáit's name in his thick Northern accent) they have been together ever since! To celebrate their love story they said I do in Trudder Lodge with a little help from their friends. Dara Munnis was on hand to capture all the lovely details!
When it comes to love it turns out you should always take your friends advice, well it worked for Niall and Cáit anyway...We met 5 years ago at the Village nightclub in Dublin. Niall succumbed to pressure from his friends to chat to a stranger, so he decided to just turn around and talk to whatever girl was standing behind him, and it was me! Despite Niall’s difficulty pronouncing my name with his northern accent, little did I know that I would end up marrying him and he would never get any better at pronouncing my name!
Niall popped the question in Sicily in old castle ruins while they were on holidays. In order to impress Cáit (a Gaelscoil teacher), Niall (a non- Irish speaker) phonetically learnt how to propose ‘as Gaeilge’! Very sweet - and not easy!
Cáit and Niall chose St. Patrick’s Church in Co. Wicklow to have their ceremony.
Cáit is one half of the quirky Irish language greeting card business ‘Cártaí Rúbaí’, so it seemed obvious that she would design and make all of her own wedding stationary!
When it came to finding the right venue, sometimes you only need to look at one. Trudder Lodge was Cáit's first stop on the wedding venue hunt and it paid off. The day she visited (with her sister, as Niall was away) the sun was shining and the house and gardens looked amazing. Even on that day Cáit could imagine her own family and friends enjoying drinks on the lawn, and she knew immediately it was the venue for them!
When it came to planning the big day, Niall and Cáit wanted a relaxed and a relatively informal day...It was important for us that the wedding was a reflection of us as a couple. We felt everything from the music, food, drink and decoration had to reflect our personalities. Throughout the whole process it’s easy to get carried away but we always went back to this initial ethos. We researched suppliers and went primarily with people that we actually liked. This proved to be a winning formula!
Cait's gorgeous dress is from The White Room, love the dark lipstick and hair style!
Cáit and Niall had a talented bunch of family and friends on hand to dig in. Cáit’s brother in-law made the amazing ‘Here Comes the Bride’ sign while Cáit’s Mum did the flowers in the church. Cáit and Niall made the bunting and designed the table numbers and handmade the birds and signs using fabric from old shirts of Niall’s and other scraps of fabric we had around the house - very clever!
What advice would you give to couples planning their day? Set a plan and stick to it, don’t get carried away with other people’s ideas. Your wedding day should be a reflection of you as a couple. Niall’s motto for the wedding was ‘Be organised’ and get as much done as early as possible so that you can enjoy the weeks leading up to the wedding.
A big congradulations to Cait and Niall on their wedding day. A big Thank You goes to Dara Munnis for sharing his work with us at One Fab Day! To see more of Dara's work pop over to www.daramunnisphotography.com
