It's not just my affinity with London that has me head over heels for today's real wedding, it's every last detail. Gemma & Chris are a couple of childhood sweethearts, stylish and creative they put-together a wedding at Trinity Buoy Wharf, in the London Docklands that's chock-full of cool and colourful ideas. Captured so beautifully by Remain In Light Photography, get set to be entirely wooed by this gorgeous London wedding.
How unusual is Gemma's hair piece - so pretty!
Oh these flowers - blousy and beautiful!
Gemma & Chris first met over two decades ago! “We met and sat next to each other on our first day of secondary school aged 11 some 20 years ago. We became great friends during our time at sixth form, spending more and more time together. Aged 17, we decided to make it official by becoming a couple and the rest is history.’
Gemma tells us how Chris proposed on a trip to New York, “In Brooklyn Bridge Park looking over the Manhattan skyline at night. Chris had it all planned but had not bargained for an over-tired and hungry girlfriend and had moaned continuously since leaving the hotel. He persisted and made the night extremely special regardless of his grumpy girlfriend. Soon enough, my mood changed once he slid down on one knee.”
The couple sum up the vibe of their big day, “Relaxed and open urban wedding with a contemporary twist.”
Peach and gold tins filled with flowers were dotted throughout the ceremony and reception space.
The couple say it was really important to them to reflect their personalities, “Creating a fun and relaxed feel to the whole day, building an environment where guests (and we) could relax and enjoy themselves fully.”
Pimm's bar? Don't mind if I do!
As a designer by day, Chris created all the stationery, signage, and decor himself - what a talented groom!
The industrial docklands setting had no shortage of photo ops for the couple and their bridal party.
It was love at first site when the couple found Trinity Buoy Wharf, “On first arrival, we were wowed by the setting! The industrial look and feel of the space and surrounding area was exactly what we were looking for and made us smile. The added bonus of access to the lighthouse and the scenic view of London also helped with our decision making. We just couldn’t not pick it!”
How stylish are these two! Gemma's two piece wedding dress is so pretty, and Chris is looking rather sharp too.
The bride and groom’s best piece of planning advice? Keep things simple! “It’s so tempting to want and have everything you hear about and see advertised. It is important to remember what you want to achieve from your day and what symbolises your partnership. Do things for yourselves and not others.”
Gemma & Chris say it’s also important not to let the nerves get the best of you. “Easier said than done but, try and relax leading up to the big day. It doesn't seem like it at the time but everything will fall into place. All that matters is that you and your partner are get to share how much you love one another with your favourite people.”
The couple's talented friend Hellie Mann made the cool gold-brushed cake.
Even the table plan had a minimal contemporary feel.
For Gemma & Chris the day was full of special moments, “Having all our closest friends and family in one place, seeing them laughing, smiling and enjoying themselves made our day perfect. We tried to include personal touches throughout and hearing our guests mention how ‘it was very us’ and discussing all the added extras made it even more special.”
The pair headed off to Singapore and Bali after their big day - here’s hoping they got to fully unwind in the sun! (Also who knew the O2 could make such a pretty backdrop!)
What a beautiful bash! Thanks so much to Gemma & Chris for telling us all about it - and to the super talented Remain in Light Photography for sending it our way!
