One of the big cake trends we've predicted for 2019 is Spatula Painted Wedding Cakes. Not dissimilar to the beautiful brushstroke wedding cakes we featured a while back or watercolour wedding cakes before that, spatula painted wedding cakes are artistic buttercream designs that look just as good on cake, as they would on a canvas. Inspired by Dewi Kurniadi of Sweet Bloom Cakes, this technique of art on a cake is now trending in the world of cake decorating (and weddings!).
These unique cakes are created by applying buttercream onto the cake with a spatula (or palette knife) in dabs and strokes, resulting in a textured oil painting effect. Metallic accents, sugar flowers or sweet treats can then be added for an extra special touch. There's no need for a cake topper with this show-stopping, edible art wedding cake design! Let's take a look...
