The Biggest Bridal Makeup Trends for 2024

Straight from Ireland's top wedding makeup artists

Like everything else in life, wedding makeup trends can be influenced by celebrities and their chosen wedding looks. However, for the most part, how you look on your big day will and should reflect your own personal style and enhance your features - maybe with a smidgen of star inspiration thrown in. We asked Ireland's leading wedding makeup artists what bridal makeup trends are going to be big in 2024 and beyond, so you can get pinning, screengrabbing and saving lots of different ideas ahead of your makeup trial.

Top Wedding Makeup Trends for 2024

Strip Lashes are Out

When it comes to eye makeup, bridal trends are shifting dramatically from a winged liner, a sharp crease cut and false lash strips. Wedding makeup artist, Dee Buckley reveals that her most requested bridal eye makeup is a softly smoked eye. "Warm tones suit all and brown liner is so much softer and romantic than black," says Dee. "I love a sheen on the lid - soft bronzey gold or rose gold tones, depending on eye colour."

This softer look means the days of heavy strip lashes are numbered. Dee says, "Brides want a more natural customised look achieved with individual lashes, rather than a strip lash. And brows are also staying more natural, groomed and structured, but oh-so-softly.'

Dialled Down Fake Tan

For future weddings, it looks as though a deep fake tan is on the way out, with more brides choosing to embrace their natural skin tone. Wedding makeup artist Niamh Martin says, "Fake tan is minimal if worn at all. People want to look like themselves, just enhanced. The most popular foundation colours in my bridal kit have dropped by about two to three shades in the last 18 months!"

Leading wedding and fashion MUA Christine Lucignano agrees: "Gone are the days of a bride walking down the aisle with her skin a shade of terracotta."

That's not to say a medium shade won't lift very pale skin and it helps banish ashy tones in deeper tones, but that 'two weeks in Marbella' hue has bitten the dust for wedding makeup trends for 2024. Top tip: If you wish to wear fake tan on your wedding day, be sure to wear it for your makeup trial too so your MUA can colour-match your foundation perfectly.

Natural Glamour

Brides typically chart out a timeline for skincare and treatments ahead of their big day, and it's not unusual to start six months to a year before the wedding. This preparation means your skin should be looking its very best when you say 'I do'. The gorgeous trend should complement all your hard work.

Wedding makeup artist Laura Devides says: "A trend gaining traction is the concept of 'natural glam.' Brides are leaning towards a sophisticated yet understated elegance, focusing on a radiant, flawless complexion that accentuates their natural features."

Makeup artist Fiona Harrison of The Makeup Studio believes that the bridal looks of stars Sofia Richie and Hailey Bieber will continue to influence wedding makeup well into 2024 and beyond. "Subtle fresh 'second skin' like base that softly glows will continue to reign. Harmonious monochromatic colour - think 'latte' or ' strawberry girl' - paired with soft liner and custom fluffy lashes. It's a look that is effortlessly timeless and suits all skin tones. This will be hotly requested.

Christine thinks healthy, glowing skin is paramount to any bridal look. "I think skin will continue to be the heart of any beautiful bride’s glam for the day, both body and face. Healthy, nurtured skin will be the basis for a modern bride's makeup. I even think allow natural freckles to shine through or maybe enhance them a bit for a youthful feeling. A bride's eye makeup will still be important but play more of a supporting role to the skin I believe."

Big on Blush

Blush is going to be huge in 2024 not just in bridal makeup, but across the board in beauty. Dee says "Beautiful cream blush and highlighter really add that fresh glow. Blush tones can be either pink, peach or bronzed, depending on the tone of the lipstick and eyeshadows used."

Christine explains the goal is for how it should look on the skin. "Instead of a powdery look, or a heavily pigmented look, it's a more balmy finish, almost like a blush and a dewy highlighter got together and morphed.'

Lip Pops or Pared Back

For lip colour, most brides will go down the nude route and wear a satin pink nude, but bolder shades are having their moment in the spotlight, and in some instances even suit better. Wedding makeup artist Nicola Plummer says: "I love a bright lip against the paleness of a wedding dress as it pops and is very impactful in pictures. Sometimes, a nude lip is great in person and up close, but not so much in photos, so think about how it will look in your photos." We have a list of perfect red lipsticks for brides here if you fancy a pop of colour.

For nude fans, Christine has a great tip for keeping your look elegant and durable from ceremony to reception. "Brides lips are so in focus on the big day, but I think a more effortless look - not heavily lined and perfectly defined - will lead the way. Almost like your own lip shade with a touch of sheer gloss. It is easy to maintain and the cameras never stop during the entire day, so it keeps it consistent.

Nude lipsticks remain a perennial favourite in bridal makeup trends, see our favourite nude lipsticks for brides here for all skin tones.

Of course following any trend should come second to following your heart and Fiona Harrison sums up beautifully how every bride should approach her look: "Ultimately whatever look you choose, the most important thing is that your bridal makeup should make you feel like your most beautiful, authentic self."
