Today's real wedding took place in one of our all-time favourite wedding venues, The Millhouse in Slane, Co. Meath, but it had a distinctly international feel to it! Guests travelled from all over the world to see this German-Irish groom and Korean-Canadian bride tie the knot, and their stylish celebration certainly didn't disappoint. From the vibrant, oversized flowers, to the romantic beach portraits by Colin Colleran, to the LOL-filled speeches, Jen and Ben's big day was an absolute dream!
These lovebirds first crossed paths at an event in Osaka, Japan, where Ben was living for a year and Jen was visiting with her sister and friend. "Adrian and Yukari, an amazing couple, invited us for dinner to an Izakaya, where we didn't talk much. Long story short, Ben finally started talking and apparently couldn't stop! We somehow managed to keep in touch despite the distance between us, and voilà , now we're married!"
For his proposal, Ben took Jen on an evening excursion to the ruins of Castle Roche in County Louth, where his family and friends had set up over 100 candles. He also recruited a photographer friend to document the whole thing! "The photographer blindfolded us and walked us into the middle of the candles," Ben remembers, "and then took off the blindfolds and I proposed. I learned how to say, 'Will you marry me?' in Korean, but evidently it wasn't great, because she didn't say, 'Yes', she just took the ring!"
Jen and Ben quickly decided on their top priority for the big day - to show their guests a good time! "We wanted to give them a one-of-a-kind experience in Ireland. Because most of the guests were coming from all over the world, I wanted them to really experience Ireland. And I think the venue we chose really showed the Irish country vibes. Also, the food at The Millhouse definitely made our guests fall in love with Irish cuisine!"
Ben describes their wedding as "laid-back and intimate with a vintage, countryside feel. We were super fortunate to have a warm and sunny day for it!"
We expect nothing less than incredible styling from the team at Frog Prince, and Sharon and her team certainly delivered at this wedding! The florals in particular are stunning, a gorgeous compromise between bold and naturalistic.
The couple tell us that they loved The Millhouse right away. "The second we walked in to this property, we knew right away that this was the place. Every corner of this property is worthy of a photo-op and it has so much character. What really made us fall in love with this venue is that there was accommodation for the guests. Because our families were coming from all over the world, we wanted to make sure that guests didn't have to worry too much about where to stay and we wanted to spend as much time with them as possible."
Jen chose the Katalina gown by Enzoani from David's Bridal for the big day. I'm living for the drama of that silhouette, and her undone updo by Denise Bray is just perfection!
We are huge fans of the fun, informal feel of Colin Colleran's wedding portraits! "We loved his style of photography," Ben says, "and how easy it was to work with him. I think it's very important that you click with your photographer as this makes it so much more fun on your special day."
You know we love the mix and match bridesmaid look! Jen's girls wore blue and silver gowns from David's Bridal, which allowed them to stay true to their personal styles, while keeping the look of the bridal party consistent!
Outdoor speeches are among our favourite wedding trends for 2019, even if the set-up is often a little bit chilly!
Speeches and a ukulele performance? This bridal party went all out to celebrate the happy couple!
Jen and Ben's advice for engaged couples is to do your research! "We have no regrets at all because we absolutely loved the vendors we worked with, and everything turned out the way we wanted because of their great work." They also recommend using planners, calendars, schedules and checklists to plan the big day. "It made it a lot easier for us to keep track of everything that needed to be done, and not miss any details."
This picture frame photo display is such a cute way to tell your love story on the day! We can see lots of couples taking inspiration from this idea.
A simple sprig of greenery can add so much visual interest to a tablescape!
This couple chose Croatia as their honeymoon destination. "We rented a car and did a road trip all over the country. What we love about Croatia is that it's not as crowded as other countries that are more popular for honeymoons. It was beautiful, untouched and there was lots to do. You get the scenery of beach and the mountains all at once! And of course, the food in Croatia was truly amazing. There was so much fresh homemade olive oil, bread, wine, pasta and jam. And also, if you are seafood lover like us, this is the place to go."
And that's a wrap! At this point, we have to say a huge thank you to Jen and Ben for letting us fawn over their big day, and to Colin Colleran for sharing the gorgeous photographs.
