We're whizzing across the water today with our real wedding this morning, all the way to Scandinavia to see Johanna and Martin's wedding by the sea in Sweden. I think it's a universal truth that every bride and groom the world over wishes for the sun to shine on their wedding day, living in Ireland it can be a bit hit and miss when it comes to making the wish come true, and it seems that in Sweden it's not much better. Johanna and Martin should be inspiration to us all that no matter what the clouds are doing, it pays off to persevere with your wedding plans and just enjoy yourself. Johanna and Martin said I do on a cliff in a fishing village in Sweden, complete with a vintage gown, pops of colour and yes, despite the sunshine in this first picture, there were more than a few rain drops! Sara Norrehed was on hand to capture all the details of the day...
Johanna and Martin chose a tiny fishing village on the east coast of Gotland, a Swedish island in the Baltic Sea, as the location for their wedding. The bride's parents spend their summers there and it's also where Martin popped the question, so it was an obvious choice for the lovebirds to say I do...
Johanna is a classic Swedish bride - blonde and beautiful of course, she a simple and elegant bridal ensemble that allowed her natural beauty to shine. Her vintage wedding dress that was worn in the 1960s by her friend's mother, and she added a simple gold pendant on a long chain as the only adornment, working perfectly with the gorgeous sweetheart neckline and full A-line skirt. Red pumps and a more natural red rose bouquet with ivy completed her look.
Martin more than matched Johanna in the style stakes, with a touch of green in his tie, the full red rose and his dark blue suit pairing perfectly with Johanna.
Photographer Sara Norrehed was thrilled to be part of this special day, working and living on Gotland herself, she often doesn't meet the brides and grooms before the big day. But from the moment Johanna and Martin stepped out of the car she knew they would be a relaxed and easy-going couple to work with.... "Johanna had explained to me about her vintage dress from the 1960’s that had been worn by a mother to one of her friends and it exceeded my expectations, super cute! The bridesmaid and best man was around during the portrait shoot singing and joking, which made into a really fun part of the day."
The coastline surrounding the fishing village was a stunning backdrop to take some intimate photographs before the ceremony.
I love Johanna's sheer cropped jacket with soft trim - perfect addition to her bridal look.
The wedding guests gathered at the harbour to walk together to the cliff where the ceremony was held while the bride and groom were hiding out in a local restaurant and then the weather struck. The rain started to pour down and the guests had to shelter wherever possible, small groups of people huddling together under the available umbrellas. 'Disaster!' you might think. Not to this couple and their family and friends. They embraced the weather, grabbed their brollies and hit the road...
Johanna and Martin delayed the ceremony to let the rain pass, and when it looked like the worst was over the couple together with their guests headed for the ceremony spot along the coastline. The rain had more in store and it came back heavier than ever, but these newlyweds proved that it's who you're with that matters, not the weather. The rain created a wonderful atmosphere for their ceremony surrounded by all their family and friends, they made their vows in a way that noone will forget.
Yay, it's official and don't they look like two happy lovebirds!
With a beautiful setting (come rain, hail or shine) Johanna and Martin celebrated their wedding in unique Swedish style!
