Sunday Selection: Four Joyful Irish Wedding Celebrations

Neither the pandemic nor wild Irish weather could stop these couples from saying 'I do'!

Today's Sunday Selection features a line-up of stylish real weddings, and four super resilient couples who didn't let anything stand in the way of their special days. Like the many couples who were forced to change their plans amid the coronavirus pandemic, or deal with unforeseen weather conditions (such as torrential rain in August!), these guys may not have had the weddings they originally hoped for, but their celebrations are moving and gorgeous nonetheless. The beautiful imagery we're about to share is proof that nothing can stop love!

Lakeside Love at Coolbawn Quay: Holly & Kevin

There are so many things to love about Holly & Kevin's fun and relaxed September micro wedding at Coolbawn Quay, but we've forced ourselves to narrow it down to just four - Holly's beautiful bridal look, the dreamy mix-and-match sage green bridesmaids dresses, the stunning waterside ceremony, and the amazing first-look portraits taken by the talented Syona Photography. You can see more of Syona Photography's gorgeous real weddings here.

A Micro Wedding for 4 at The Merrion Hotel: Raquel & Brian

Raquel and Brian said 'I do' last summer at The Merrion Hotel, and, like many other couples, they had to adapt their day, downsizing their guest list to just 4. Because of Covid-19 travel restrictions, Raquel's family couldn't fly from Brazil, and Brian's brother wasn't able to make it over from New York. It was very important to the pair that their family and friends could feel included and watch the ceremony, so staff at The Merrion set up a TV and a Zoom video call so everyone could virtually attend. After an emotional ceremony, Raquel and Brian had a quiet moment in the Wellington Room, just the two of them, where they had their first dance as a married couple. Raquel looked stunning wearing a midi dress by Maje, paired with gold Carvela heels, and pearl drop earrings. All the beautiful moments and details were captured by Wonder & Magic, and you can see more from their day here.

A Sweet Picnic Wedding at Lady Dixon Park: Aaron & Kate

Aaron & Kate celebrated their wedding in the heart of lockdown, and after their original venue was no longer able to host them, they decided to have a picnic at Lady Dixon Park in South Belfast instead! There was an incredibly intimate and joyful atmosphere throughout the day, which you can tell just by looking at the fab imagery by Ross Murphy Photography. We love how the couple and their photographer took a moment for some portraits outside No.18,  the house where they met while at university! You can see more of Ross Murphy's work here.

Rainy Day Romance at Old Court Chapel: Ruth & Jamie

Despite choosing a wedding date of mid August, musicians Ruth and Jamie faced rain of almost biblical proportions on their big day! But while the weather was cause for concern, these two were clearly focussed on embracing the moment. A carefully-planned ceremony in the charming Old Court Chapel reflected the importance of music in their lives, through performances by close friends. The sheer joy of their day was not to be upstaged by the weather, as guests gathered for their wedding feast and some heartwarming speeches. Ruth and Jamie’s loved ones, including Jamie’s Dad, put their musical talents on show again to play the couple's first dance, ‘A Foggy Day’ by Frank Sinatra. Who knew rain could make your wedding day even more romantic and memorable?! If these gorgeous images by Adam and Grace Photography don't floor you, nothing will. You can see more from the couple's day here.
