A Summer Medley at the Millhouse - Kate & Trevor's Wedding

A Summer Medley at the Millhouse - Kate & Trevor's Wedding blends the industrial buildings of The Millhouse with sweet feminine decor!

It's lovely to see a wedding pop into our inbox that manages to balance industrial charm and a feminine colour palette of pink and blue. Kate and Trevor were based in Perth when they began planning their dream wedding at The Millhouse. They fell in love with the blend of old industrial spaces and the charming house and brought their own pretty touches with a pink and blue colour scheme perfect for a high Summer's day - Give Us a Goo gave us a goo at one lovely wedding...

Kate and Trevor met way back when they were in school... Trevor was 2 years ahead of me but we had mutual friends. We didn't start dating until 2001 when our paths crossed again in Boston where Trevor had been living for some time and I went on a two weeks girls holiday in the summer after completing my leaving cert. I decided to extend my stay, we both eventually moved back to Ireland together.

When it came to popping the question the pair were living in Perth and Trevor gave it not one but two gos to make sure Kate was sufficiently one surprised little lady,... Trevor surprised me on March 3rd 2012 with a day of swimming with wild dolphins in Perth. He had originally brought me in the January for my birthday when I was sure he was going to pop the question because it was a dream of mine to swim with them and the day was so perfect, but it never happened. I later found out that he had planned to do it that day but forgot to bring the ring with him because he was so nervous! So when we got to the boat in March I was a little disappointed because I thought there was no chance that he was going to propose as he would have done it the first time round...

...We had to wear belts in the water and go in a group of about 7 people holding onto the persons belt in front. On our last swim I got into the water thinking he was behind me. A dolphin swam right under us and it was so amazing that I started to squeeze and rub his hand that was on my belt. When I lifted my head up to get back on the boat he was already onboard, on bended knee with the ring. It wasn't his hand I had been fondling, but some stranger's! Of course I said yes to which the whole boat cheered and then the captain took us up to the top deck to have champagne alone, it was perfect.

Living abroad meant Kate and Trevor we were relying on the internet for a lot of their wedding plans but when it came to their venue, they narrowed it down to four and arranged to visit them while they were home for her brother's wedding... As we started to drive down the driveway of The Millhouse I was full of nerves, but as soon as the house came into view and the beautiful scenery and imperfections of the surrounding buildings came onto the horizon I knew it was 'the one'. It had the perfect balance of rustic and chic to it, mixed with a touch of quirky, exactly what we were going for. The bedrooms are so unique which I loved and the rooms for our ceremony and reception were perfect, simple canvases that you could personalise without having to do or spend a lot. The menu also suited our theme as they offer a gourmet BBQ option which we chose. Having the entire venue to ourselves was a big plus for us aswell, I think it just made it that more personal that the only people there that day were us and our guests. The staff were all incredibly helpful and nice.

We wanted our ceremony to be very personal  and the kind of day we dreamed of,  not what we thought other people might like us to have.

We had a spiritual ceremony conducted by Tom Colton and it was amazing. We wrote each other letters the night before saying what had brought us to this day and what our hopes were for the future. During the ceremony we put the sealed letters in a wine box and each hammered it shut, it is to be opened on our 25th wedding anniversary or if we ever have a crisis in our marriage we can open it and read our letter. to remind ourselves how in love we are. We also did the "Tieing The Knot" ceremony which allowed us to include our bridal party even more, very special.

We wanted to feel very relaxed on the day and to be a part of it and so it was important that our photographer didn't take us away from our guests or make us pose for long periods of time and Phil Voon of Give Us a Goo was incredible. He blended right in and made us and our families and bridal party very comfortable.

The pair wanted a rustic vibe on the day and the reception space in The Millhouse was perfect to incorporate some touches. The combined a pink and blue colour palette with tree trunk table centre pieces, jam jars with florals  from the talented team at The French Touch with added pretty lace details.

We were going for a rustic, relaxed vibe. We wanted our guests to feel comfortable and chilled throughout the day and into the night and really we wanted it to be a little bit different from the traditional wedding, while still keeping some elements of tradition alive.

The hanging floral wreaths were borrowed from The Orchard Garden Centre and worked perfectly with the pink and blue theme.

What advice would you give to couples planning their day?We think the most important thing is to plan the day that you both want and stick with it. It's hard to please everyone so at least please yourselves. Lists, lists and more lists, get a wedding planning book and write everything that pops into your head into it,I kept it beside my bed because I would wake in the middle of the night thinking of something and jot it down to deal with the next day. Budget and try not to go over what you've agreed on expenses, you should only spend what you have saved.
