For me, the perfect summer wedding is a sun-soaked and relaxed affair, with a little bit of chic glamour - cocktails on the lawn, lots of laughs with great friends, siting down to a fabulous meal under the stars and dancing the night away. It's the dream. Today the dream comes true as we share Geraldine & Fabien's gorgeous wedding in France. Yes, the dream summer wedding does look even better when it's at a Chateau! From Geraldine's beautiful boho wedding dress to the stunning glass venue, everything is effortless and idyllic. For some the dream really does come true... Enjoy!
Geraldine and Fabien met at college, where they happened to be part of the same sports society. They soon realised they shared a lot more in common than just college and sport and began to date.
As Geraldine adores the outdoors and nature, Fabien decided to surprise her with a romantic proposal in the French countryside, she told us the tale..."He picked me up at work on a Friday afternoon and prepared a bag for me with some stuff for the weekend. I was very surprised, so he told me it was for my birthday which was a few days later. After two hours of driving without knowing where we were going, we arrived in a small village, Méréaucourt, and we stopped at a farm. The farm takes part in a program called "un lit au pré". The idea of this concept is to stay at a farm without electricity or hot water. We slept in a large tent made of wood, it was heated and had a stove over a wood fire, you eat garden vegetables and eggs from the henhouse, etc. It is surrounded by lots of wildlife, donkeys, chickens, rabbits and cows. I love nature and animals that's why Fabien knew that I would love it. While we dined on Saturday night in our tent, Fabien proposed, wtih a ring and a large diamond carved in wood."
As Geraldine and Fabien are such a lovers of nature, they decided to keep their summer wedding very simple, doing most of the details themselves and finding a venue that had beautiful outdoor spaces. Geraldine even borrowed her mum's old red Fiat to drive to the cathedral on the day, too cute.
The stunning cathedral was decorated sparsely with minimal floral pew ends and feminine lace. To add a little personality to the proceedings, Geraldine and Fabien simply chose a favourite song each to enter to, Beautiful Day by U2 for Fabien and All You Need Is Love by The Beatles for Geraldine.
With their I dos done, celebrated with an impressive shower of confetti, Geraldine and Fabien hopped back into Geraldine's mums car and drove to their idyllic reception venue in the heart of the French countryside.
Driving themselves in a Fiat 500 allowed them to get a little head start on the guest and enjoy a few blissful moments alone.
In keeping with the light and airy summery theme Geraldine chose a strikingly beautiful wedding dress by designer Laure de Sagazan. If you've fallen in love with Geraldine's dress then you'll love a special post we prepared about boho wedding dresses including Laure's designs.
Geraldine explains why Domaine des Fontaines was so clearly the one for them. "It's a great area with lots of space, well maintained, a small pond and a beautiful house. We immediately liked the fact that it is beautiful and authentic."
Blessed with a gorgeous sunny day, Geraldine, Fabien and their guests had a laid back cocktail reception in the gardens (complete with a flash mob by guests), before heading inside the unique glass tent for their evening meal and some late night dancing.
I spy the lucky girl who caught the bouquet! Looking pretty pleased!
Given total freedom to decorate as they wished, Geraldine and Fabien got creative and filled the beautiful bright space with balloons, burlap and homemade jam favours.
For their honeymoon, Geraldine and Fabien planned a seven month trip around the world, which they began in January. So jealous! We hope you're both having a ball and thank you so much for sharing your fab summer wedding with us.
