An impossibly stylish bride, her dashing groom, a characterful venue and all the glamour of a city wedding, there is so much inspiration crammed into Colleen and Ian's gorgeous Dublin bash. This cool couple wanted a beautiful venue steeped in history, and King's Inn fit the bill, not only giving them an atmospheric reception space, but a stunning backdrop for their photos too, by Pawel Bebenca Photography. Add in some gorgeous florals, killer style, a beautiful church ceremony, and some fun pit-stops around the city, and this real wedding has got it all!
The bridal party and their guests stayed at The Wilder Townhouse in Dublin, “The hotel has so much character,” says Colleen, “It is small and exclusive and was the perfect location for getting ready on the morning of the wedding and reminiscing about the day over breakfast the following morning.”
You can tell from the shoes alone that Colleen's got great taste!
The couple met at a training course through work seven years ago, “Ian poked me on Facebook (it was 2012 so maybe more acceptable than it is today!),” recalls Colleen, “It was on a night out in McGowans in Phibsborough with some mutual friends that he eventually won me over. He didn’t want to 'peak too soon' (Ian’s words, not mine!) so our first date was for a burger and chips in TGI Friday’s but I’m happy to say he upped his game from there!”
These shots of Colleen with her parents are giving us ALL of the feels!
Ian had certainly upped his game by the time he proposed while hiking in Malibu, “We lived in LA for two and half years and it was our favourite hike so the location was perfect. Ian had champagne and sushi in his backpack, so we celebrated with a picnic overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Because of the time difference we didn’t tell anyone at home until the following day, it was so exciting as we got to enjoy the celebrations first without anyone else knowing we we’re engaged.”
We love that Colleen had both parents by her side as she entered the church, "My mam and dad both walked me down the aisle which was important to me and a lovely memory.”
What a stunning church, the pair said their vows at St Kevin’s Church, on Harrington Street in Dublin.
It's such a nice idea to pop back to your ceremony space for some photographs on your own once all the guests have moved outside.
The couple say that their wedding day was everything they had had hoped for, “The weather was amazing, we got a summer’s day in October so we were very lucky. Everything went perfectly, it was very enjoyable and relaxed which is obviously exactly what we wanted!”
This pair tell us about some of their highlights from the day, “We loved the drive as newlyweds from the church on the south side of the city over to the north side in our vintage white car. We stopped at the Guinness Gate for a pint and took some photos on the quays and had lots of locals and tourists giving us advice (i.e. ‘don’t do it!’) and well wishes.”
Such a iconic spot to grab some shots on the way to the reception at King's Inns!
The priorities for Colleen and Ian were to throw a great party for their family and friends and to make sure they both enjoyed the day. “We also made sure to have a few moments alone to take it all in. We never wanted the planning process to become overwhelming or not be enjoyable. We also wanted to include our close family and friends. We had five bridesmaids and five groomsmen, having a large bridal party was so much fun!”
The glamour - this shot is like something straight from Vanity Fair!
Okay, let's chat about Colleen's gorgeous gown, the beading is just exquisite and the shape of the back alluring yet elegant, which she had altered from the original design. She styled it beautifully with her beaded headband and textural bouquet by Fernwood Florals.
For Colleen, it was the reception space at King’s Inns that sold the venue, “The dining room is truly amazing. I had hoped we could find a venue with high ceilings, history and character. From our first visit to King's Inns, we knew it was where we wanted to celebrate with our guests following the ceremony.”
Having planned such a stunning celebration, we hit these two up for some of their best advice. “Agree on priorities early on in the planning process and keep reminding yourself of what is important. Also, I would recommend being as organised as possible. Do things as early as you can as this will allow you to enjoy the build up to the wedding and limit the tasks that need to be done in the weeks before the wedding. I think the cause of stress can often be because the to-do list is too long as the wedding draws near.”
The newlyweds jetted off to Dubai and South Africa for their honeymoon. “It was amazing,” says Colleen, “We relaxed by the beach in Dubai and in South Africa, we spent time in Capetown, the vineyards in Franschhoek, drove along the Garden Route and did a safari, so we felt as though we had several holidays in one. We would highly recommend South Africa!”
