Fields of Gold - Ann and Gordon's Station House Hotel Wedding by Studio 33

Whisking his bride through golden barley fields in an open top vintage car, Gordon swept Ann from Rathfeigh Church to their Station House Hotel wedding reception, stopping for beautiful pictures by Fionn McCann of Studio 33 Photography

Imagine speeding down country lanes on a Summer's day passing through golden barley fields in an open top vintage car... epically romantic no? But this isn't just the ravings of a  mad woman, or a scene from Bridget Jones, it was exactly what Gordon and Ann did on their wedding day last Summer, and we have the beautiful images by Fionn McCann of Studio 33 Photography to show you...

Gordon and Ann married in Rathfeigh Church and celebrated with friends and family at The Station House Hotel in Dunsany, just down the road. But before seeing how this Love Story is celebrated, we need to know how they got together... Ann and Gordon met (like so many of us) through friends, way back in 2003. "I was interested in Gordon straight away but it took a year before Gordo (slow coach) noticed me and we got together. Our first date was at the circus where Gordo was pulled into the ring by a clown and made to dress up as a tiger and jump through hoops." I hope you still have him doing that Ann!

The wedding ceremony took place in my own local church of Rathfeigh, between Slane and Ashbourne. Rathfeigh is a dinky little church, very pretty both inside and out, enjoying a lovely secluded location at the head of a valley, with ample locations round about for perfect pastoral pictures, such as those Fionn McCann took of  Ann and Gordon. And in case you're wondering, up above is the mass bell rung many a Sunday morning by yours truly in my altar girl days.

Ann chose a beautiful lace fishtail gown, with cap sleeves from Spanish bridal designers Pronovias, complemented beautifully with a simple small white bouquet of freesia, lily and ranunculus. And isn't that flowergirl just the dotiest with her basket...

When it came to the proposal it was a huge surprise for Ann "We were on holidays in the Basque Region of France and Spain in September 2010. One day we went up a mountian called La Rhune with beautiful views. We decide to walk back down the mountain in the midday sun which took over two hours. By the time we got to the bottom we were thirsty and starving but we had a picnic in the car. I said we should eat in the car park. Gordo insisted we head back to a field that we had passed numerous times while staying in the area; undulating hlls, trees, bales of hay and a rolling river. So we lunched under a tree and as we were packing up to go back to the car to head on to Spain, Gordo got down on one knee and said 'Will you marry me'. I was very shocked and happy but managed to say 'Yes'."

While Ann and Gordon didn't have a theme per se, the bridal party look was a combination of classic glamour and easy-going chic. With beautiful navy silk dresses of differing styles, and posies combining pink roses and sweet pea.

This is what I mean about combining old school glamour with easy-going chic... a bride who doesn't mind her hair being blown because she's motoring off with her new hubby in an amazing 1950 MG TD. We're loving your Marilyn Monroe glam Ann...

The car in question belongs to Gordon's Dad, and if he's anything like mine this is the only occasion someone else would be allowed to drive his pride and joy!

The trip from the ceremony to the reception, afforded a few opportunities to stop off for the all-important wedding portraits, and being a beautiful day in the height of Summer, the fields of Meath provided the most beautiful backdrops in the forms of lush country lanes and golden wheatfields...

Ann comes from Blackrock, Co. Louth so when choosing a venue the couple wanted somewhere relatively local "we visited a number of venues around the Louth and Meath area but we were immediately taken with the Station House Hotel. It suited our desire for a relaxed and intimate wedding venue." The Station House is a small hotel with great ambience and lovely gardens perfect for a summer's day of festivities, but also with lots of nooks and crannies for chats and craic throughout the evening...

Before you ask, you won't be able to this choc fest for your own wedding, unless you're willing to don an apron and go all Darina on it. No Hermes did not make the cakes!  The white 3 tier wedding cakes were the work of Maura, Ann's mum, while Martin, Ann's Dad iced and decorated them. Fair play Martin, if  my Dad attempted it, god only knows what you'd end up with. But the chocfest was the work of the bride Ann herself, apparently to satisfy her "non-fruit eating husband" and consisted of 5 layers including chocolate biscuit cake, chocolate toffee, mars bar rice krispie cake, chocolate fingers and chocolate truffles. nom, nom, nom... Loving the Hermes ribbon touch too there Ann!

So what advice would you give to brides and grooms planning their day? Check your number of guests before you book your venue, stay relaxed, talk to each other and have lots of fun. It's worth it.
