Kathryn and Chris initially fell in love over a shared love of surfing - with Kathyrn spending her very first teaching pay cheque on a surfboard from Chris. Chris later proposed with a handmade sea shell engagement ring - how cute! Inspired by this love of all things aquatic Kathyrn and Chris decided to marry by the sea at The Armada Hotel, complete with beach portraits by IG Studio Photography. Wait until you see their adorable guest of honour - pup Harri...
Kathryn and Chris first met whilst they were both teaching in a primary school in Cardiff, Wales. Kathyrn recounts..."Friends first and then blossomed into love after a year or two! I spent my first pay packet on a surfboard that I bought from Chris - we spent a lot of time surfing together."
To propose to his Irish bride Kathryn Chris chose the scenic location of Croagh Patrick. Kathryn remembers..."I had always wanted to climb Croagh Patrick. Chris took me away to Mayo for the weekend. We climbed to the top of Croagh Patrick and Chris took me away to a quiet place and got down on one knee. He proposed with a ring that he had carved out of a sea shell. We kept it a secret for 2 months until I had my engagement ring made by Tadgh O Flynn in Nenagh. The hardest 2 months of my life!!"
Once officially engaged Kathryn and Chris chose to have a wedding with a view at the Our Lady, Star of the Sea chapel and The Armada Hotel in West Clare.
The traditional church ceremony was decorated with wild flowers, whilst family members provided the ceremony music. Kathryn remembers fondly..."My family sang in the church for us and Chris’ aunty and uncle and family friend sang a Welsh song – Calon Lan. We were overwhelmed by the amount of practices and effort they all put in."
Seriously in love with Kathyrn and Chris' Old English Sheepdog Harri - who adorably meeted and greeted guests at the church door.
To match the laid back vibe of their wedding Kathryn wore a romantic lace Claire Pettibone wedding dress, a wild flower crown and simple family jewellery.
Eager to incorporate both Chris' Welsh culture and Kathryn's Irish roots they organised homemade Welsh cakes, a surprise "well-rehearsed Welsh national anthem dance performed by the Welsh gang" and a small ceili as a nod to Kathryn's Irish family.
The reception décor was then kept simple with wild spring flowers, handmade driftwood candle lanterns for the tables, a driftwood wedding board for guests to sign and lots of DIY bunting.
For their honeymoon Kathryn and Chris went to Portugal for a week straight after the wedding, and then took a second honeymoon backpacking in South America. Huge congratulations to you both, and thanks so much for sharing you wedding day with us all!
