Sharp Style and Emotional Vows: Bomo & Jerome

A stylish celebration at Castle Leslie planned from all the way in Sydney!

An Irish groom and an American groom, planning their Castle Leslie wedding all the way from Australia - Jerome & Bomo made the execution of today's real wedding look effortless! The stylish couple who met in Sydney, brought their friends and family from around the world to Monaghan, for a wedding that was both relaxed and refined. With emotional vows (that included a song!), sharp suits, and beautiful decor with an organic feel, we know a lot of you will be pining after Bomo & Jerome's wedding day style. All of which is captured here by Dylan McBurney Photography.

Bomo & Jerome met, as so many couples do, in an Irish pub in Australia. Jerome tells us a little more about their backgrounds, “I am from Dublin but have spent the last 13 years living and working in Sydney while Bomo has spent most of his life on the east coast of the US and mainly in New York. We met in an Irish bar in Sydney (P.J. O’Brien’s) over seven years ago.”

Jerome says he was smitten with Bomo right away, “We were introduced by a friend of mine that worked with Bomo… who I forgot to thank in my wedding speech (sorry Lorcan). It was love at first sight…for me anyway, ha! I was having a house party for my birthday the next day so I invited Bomo. The rest is history and we have been together on lots of fun adventures ever since.”

Bomo asked Jerome to marry him with a surprise proposal in Memphis after an American road trip through the Deep South, “We drove from New Orleans, in Louisiana through Mississippi past the bayou up to Memphis, Tennessee, taking in as much live jazz and blues as we could while eating our body weight in tasty Cajun food. We didn’t tell anyone we got engaged for a couple of days until after we finished celebrating and enjoying the moment.” I always love it when a couple keeps the happy news to themselves for a few days - it’s such a special time!

The grooms both had their mothers walk them down the aisle!

Awh the joy on Bomo's face is giving us goosebumps!

Jerome tells us his favourite moment from the day, “While there were many highlights personally for me one of the best was Bomo singing me a song for his vows. The whole place was in tears even some tough Tipperary famers.” I love that image!

These two are just the sweetest!

With so many guests travelling in for the day, the couple identified a few priorities for their wedding, “Once the big ticket items (venue, music, celebrant, photographer) were booked, our main priority was that everybody had fun and that our friends and family from across the globe got to meet and help make our wedding such a special day.”

Jerome & Bomo loved Castle Leslie from the start, “The castle and its grounds were stunning. Also, John and his staff were very professional and catered to our every need. It also helped that there was so much accommodation onsite.”

The couple wanted their celebration to have a fun and casual feel, “Because most people were staying onsite and had met in the castle lodge the night before for a few drinks, this meant that on the wedding day everyone was very relaxed and had already made friends.”

The grooms took inspiration for their wedding from the grounds around Castle Leslie, “In terms of look we just loved the surrounding woodland in Glaslough, so we tried to make everything to do with the wedding look and feel as natural and as earthy as possible.”

Jerome and Bomo have some advice for couples planning a wedding from afar, “It’s a bit more work organising a wedding in Ireland from a completely different time zone like Australia, so be prepared to have lots of late night and early morning phone/Skype calls but don’t sweat the little things just focus on the creating the elements for a big party with all your friends and the rest will just happen naturally.”

The couple say it’s important to take time out for each other and to have fun! “Nobody remembers or cares what colour the serviettes were but they will remember if they had fun. Also on the day make sure to keep taking 15 minute breaks just the two of you away from everyone so you can stop, take a deep breath and enjoy the time together as it all goes by too fast.”

These two had one of the most amazing honeymoons we’ve ever read about, “We went for a month exploring as much of Africa as we could. We started on safari camping and driving around off-road in the Maasai Mara in Kenya. Here we got to see all the wild lions, giraffes, cheetah, leopards roaming free in their natural habitat. One of the highlights was experiencing the annual wildebeest migration from the Serengeti.”

And that wasn’t it, “Then we flew (on some tiny, not-so-new planes) to see the protected Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania where there were more wild animals such as hippos, flamingo and gazelles and we stayed on a scenic farm enjoying the local food (and beers). We then travelled down to Zambia to see the impressive Victoria Falls followed by a sunset boat trip up the Zambesi river.”

And their adventures still weren’t over, “The Okavango Delta in Botswana was next, where we spent most of the time traveling around in small boats in very close contact with elephants, hippos, crocs and lots of wild birds. The binoculars we got as a wedding present were a blessing here. Finally, we flew to Cape Town in South Africa where we relaxed, went for dinner with friends, went up Table Mountain etc. It was an amazing trip and great to spend so much time just the two of us after the busy run up to the wedding.” One word: wow.

What a gorgeous wedding! Thanks so much to Jerome & Bomo for sharing their day with us, and of course to Dylan McBurney for capturing it so beautifully.
