The term Shabby Chic has been popping up so much in the past while, everywhere from home decor to wedding style. Although a relatively new trend in wedding world, Shabby Chic has been around for quite some time and nothing beats the true beauty of the original Shabby Chic Style created by Rachel Ashwell. Rachel founded the original Shabby Chic brand back in 1989 on Santa Monica's upscale and trendy Montana Avenue, where she sold washable slipcovers and her flea market finds. The collection has now expanded to include bedding, furniture, decor and accessories as well as a boutique hotel, becoming a timeless design style along the way.

The brand celebrates the beauty of time-worn objects, marrying great design with casual ease and embracing imperfections to create a vintage feel. Rachel describes the inspiration behind her brand...

"A faded, peeling old dresser, a cracked white chandelier, a chipped metal trash can painted with roses. To one person, these items are rejects from the junkyard, to another they are a bounty of riches. Discovering beauty in finding new uses for the old and worn discards of others greatly appeals to me, there is no better place to find the faded and decayed, the crumbing and the scuffed than a salvage yard or flea market, garage or estate sale".

If you want to recreate the Shabby Chic wedding style for your big day think vintage styling with off-white accessories, faded velvets, pretty florals, bunting and mismatched floral china handed down from your grandmother. Soft pastels, warm creams and magnolias and soft candle light will also add to the romance of  the shabby chic style. But don't worry! This feminine style doesn't have to break the bank. Climb into your Granny's attic, rummage through your shed, head to carboot sales and flea markets. From vintage tea sets to old trunks and suitcases, you never know what shabby chic gems are out their waiting to be found!
