Festival Fun in the Forest: Claire & Dave's Segrave Barns Wedding

This couple wanted to dance like nobody was watching... and they did!

Two of the biggest wedding trends of the last decade are boho and festival and today's real wedding couple shows us how to perfectly blend both. Claire and Dave chose the gorgeously cosy Segrave Barns in Dunany, County Louth for their eclectic and romantic celebration. With lots of wildflowers and greenery, the pair brought the outside into their wonderful barn venue. This was all set off with lots of rustic décor pieces which the couple lovingly sourced and styled to create an incredibly fun and unique vibe. The celebration was all lovingly captured by Gareth McGaughey Photography and we're sure you'll love this wedding album as much as we do!

Claire and Dave first met at a friend's wedding years ago and hit it off but it took a few more years before romantic sparks were flying between the pair. "Three years after my friend's wedding we became a couple," Claire revealed. "And three rescued chihuahuas later we decided to tie the knot."

Well, there was a little more pomp and ceremony to that than Claire is giving Dave credit for - sort of. "We went to London for a weekend before Christmas to visit family there and see the city lit up," Claire revealed. "Dave decided that it would be the perfect time to pop the question. In a one-in-a-million chance, Covent Garden two weeks before Christmas was practically empty. We sat on the hanging floral chair surrounded by Christmas lights, the perfect moment... that was until the nerves hit Dave. His voice went all high-pitched which made me roar laughing which ruined the moment entirely. Dave had asked my parents permission before leaving for London so he was under real pressure as they expected a happy call from London with the big news - a call that never came. Two weeks later, in the comfort of our own home, Dave dropped to his knee and asked me to marry him. I rushed to my mam's house straight away to tell her the news and put my parents out of their misery!"

This couple had the same priorities heading into the wedding planning process as many others; remaining true to themselves. "We really wanted to make sure the day would represent us," Claire told us. "That we would relax and enjoy it. That we would be true to what we love and everything about the day would reflect that. We wanted the day to be not just about us but about all of us including our loved ones. We wanted them to be a part of it so we could all come together and celebrate as one, so everyone could look back and say, 'that was a great laugh'."

And when it came to choosing the backdrop for this memorable day, Claire and Dave's decision was easily made. "We knew that nothing would compare to Segrave Barns for us," they told us. "The proprietors were completely on our wavelength and we had 100% confidence in them from the moment we met. The venue is unique and amazingly beautiful. The attention to detail, decor, atmosphere, location... it ticked every box. It had the rustic charm we wanted, you could smell the sea, the amazing woodland, the house and gardens, and all the on-site locations, it was all perfection!"

Claire and Dave were keen to create a 'dance like no one is watching' vibe at their wedding, a real party vibe and that's exactly what they got. "It was pure fun, relaxed, no formalities, and a let your hair down kind of day," they told us. "We included a running order of the day at the ceremony. This allowed the guests to know what the plan was and gave them the freedom to work around it as they wish. We wanted the party to start at the church and not end until the sing-song at 4am and that's what we got."

But there was definitely space for sentimentality at this celebration. "The input of your nearest and dearest is something special," Claire admitted. "It felt like a team effort. Our best friends were our bridesmaids, cake makers, makeup artists, chauffeur, readers, and decorators. We are so blessed to be surrounded by such amazing and talented people. There were just so many special elements but up there among the best was our first dance in the woods at sunset surrounded by sparklers."

It will come as zero surprise that Claire and Dave's advice is all about staying true to yourself and not letting anyone sway you when it comes to wedding planning. "Follow your gut and don't just do something because it is expected or on-trend," they told us. "Do it because you want it... it relates to you. Make sure the day is a reflection of you both, your love, your personalities from start to finish. That way, you will have the most enjoyable, authentic, beautiful day of your life with no regrets. On the day it is wonderful to be surrounded by your loved ones but surround yourself with them during the planning. It is their day too and it becomes a great finale to an amazing team effort."

Thanks so much to today's couple Claire and Dave for sharing their gorgeously eclectic day with us and to Gareth McGaughey Photography for capturing the magic.
