Saturday Selection: Four Ideas for Epic Wedding Portraits

Dreaming of unique wedding photography? Today's real weddings are full of cute wedding portrait ideas, including an adorable post-ceremony picnic!

Wedding portraits are a source of anxiety for many couples - we often hear, "What if I'm not a natural in front of the camera?", or "Is this going to be really awkward?" - but the good news is that a terrific photographer, like the ones we've recommend in our wedding book, will take care of everything. Of course, if you have some unique wedding portrait ideas to bring to the table, that definitely helps! The four couples in today's Saturday Selection got creative with their portraits, one hopping aboard a disused train and another organising a post-ceremony picnic! Ready to see some stunning real weddings? Let's go!

Winter Glamour: Aileen & David

A mutual love of sport brought keen footballers Aileen and David together, but for their wedding, these gorgeous lovebirds just wanted "a laid back, fun filled day" with minimal fuss. Of course, that didn't stop this pair from wowing us with their wedding day looks - we've fallen hard for Aileen's fitted Liz Martinez gown in particular! The amazing Bronté Photography took Aileen and David's wedding portraits at their reception venue, The Heritage Killenard, where the couple partied the night away with their nearest and dearest. But we think these relaxed, candid-style photographs, which were taken right after their ceremony at St. John's Church are just as beautiful! See more of Bronté Photography's work here.

Take the A Train: Konrad & Giedre

We're always excited to see wedding photographs from Glenlo Abbey Hotel in Co. Galway, but there were audible gasps in the office when we laid eyes on Konrad & Giedre's portraits by Pawel Szustak Photography, which were taken in the Pullman Restaurant, housed in two sensational original rail carriages from the Orient Express! By the time the couple had finished their late-afternoon civil ceremony, it was too dark to take outdoor portraits, but we think they ended up with an even more magical result! We're also loving Giedre's sequin top and tulle skirt bridal combo - it's the perfect compromise between informality and opulence!

A Post-Wedding Picnic: James & Gary

James and Gary's big day was full of family, friends and flowers (naturally enough - both grooms are professional florists at Floral Expressions Keady in Co. Armagh!) but we couldn't resist sharing these beautiful portraits of just the two of them, enjoying their first quiet moments together as husband and husband. After exchanging vows in Farnham Estate, James and Gary took a stroll through the woods with their photographer Paula Donnelly, stopping for a romantic picnic featuring lots of cake and Champagne! We think this is just the sweetest idea! Shortly after these photos were taken, they headed back to their reception space, which was covered in red roses, and had an epic first dance starring eight family members who are all world champion Irish dancers! You can see the full wedding here.

Pink and Tartan: Niamh & Lee

We just love how Scottish groom Lee and Irish bride Niamh merged their personal styles for their wedding day in Bunratty Castle Hotel. Niamh chose the palest pink bridesmaid dresses from Sharon Gregory Bridal Design Studio for her girls, and asked Angel Flowers to create naturalistic bouquets, tying the whole look together with vivid greens and violets, while Lee kitted his groomsmen out in Hebridean Storm kilts! It's a combo that shouldn't work, but does! We also love that they had a little fun with their wedding portraits, which were taken by Mrs Redhead Photography. You can see the full wedding on her blog here.
