On a crisp winter day, our real wedding couple Roisín and Alan exchanged vows in a gorgeous church ceremony followed by a supremely sophisticated reception at Cashel Palace Hotel in Co. Tipperary. Taking place the day before new years, their December wedding featured a spectacular fireworks display over the Rock of Cashel, velvet wedding party style and touch of fur to fend off the elements. Captured by SOSAC Photography, check out Roisín and Alan's regal celebration below.
Before diving into the details of their magnificent special day, let's get to know the happy couple a bit more! With their paths first crossing in college, the pair's sweet proposal story took place after they went for a swim at the Bridges of Ross outside of Kilkee where Roisín has a holiday home. "We have spent a lot of time in Kilkee over the last few years. After the swim and we had changed, Alan proposed with a few onlookers around."
With their gorgeous celebration featuring plenty of chic wedding attire, glowing bride Roisín opted to wear a phenomenal Halfpenny London gown paired with Loeffler Randal heels and a glorious 3D floral motif tulle veil.
Tying the knot in a serene ceremony at St. John the Baptist Church in Cashel, Roisín and Alan included the readings I Wanna Be Yours by John Cooper Clarke and Relatvity which is attributed to Albert Einstein. "We also had friends doing readings and prayers of the faithful and my sister sang She Moves Through the Fair and my dad played Gabriel’s Oboe on the flute. I walked in to Sea of Love and we left to Dreams by the Cranberries. We really enjoyed our ceremony (possibly more than we expected!)."
How adorable are the couple's flower girl and page boy who wore coordinating all-black outfits including a sequined Next dress and a velvet suit?
Wearing a fur stole on the crisp December day, the couple wanted their wedding aesthetic to be classic, simple, stylish and fun: "As it was a winter wedding, we did black tie with dark velvet and fur for the bridesmaids with pops of bright pinks in the flower arrangements. My bouquet was dusty pink roses and the bridesmaids had a mix of eucalyptus and thistle. Alan’s tux was black velvet with a black velvet bow tie. The page boys (my nephews) had matching black velvet tuxes."
Adding to the experience, having nearly 180 of their family and friends there to celebrate with them really made the couple's day: "Many of them traveling from afar and with many home for Christmas we nearly had everyone we had invited which was fab... The music and weather and atmosphere were amazing. We walked from the church to the hotel after the ceremony in the sunshine with our parents and bridal party and some guests which is a great memory."
Roisín and Alan had this advice for couples embarking on their own wedding planning journey: "Try to enjoy it as much as possible and not get too stressed. Also try to get ahead of as much of the planning as possible (even table plans) - as you get closer to the day, you’ll be excited and may not want to do anymore work work/ planning etc. If you can get married in a hotel like Cashel Palace, the staff take lots of the pain and stress away from the planning and day -leaving you both to enjoy it all."
Following their ceremony, the couple chose the Cashel Palace Hotel in Co. Tipperary as the host of their dreamy evening reception. In terms of what made the venue 'the one': "My parents and family had celebrated occasions there over the years and had always stopped there on the way to Limerick / Kilkee. Alan’s parents stayed there after their wedding years ago and his family also often stopped there on the way to Cork over the years. So it was already a special place and then once we visited it (even in hard hats and high vis jackets) we knew it was going to be amazing. It was fab on the day and really Christmassy and cosy."
Before their first dance to After All by the Frank and Walters, the couple had a spectacular fireworks display over the Rock of Cashel. The evening went on to include a saxophone performance and plenty of dancing to The Mixtape wedding band: "Our priority was for everyone to have a good time and enjoy it, so we put a lot of time into the music and food."
After all their busy celebrating the pair headed off on a four-week honeymoon of epic proportions: "We went on safari for a week in Kenya, followed by almost two weeks in Bangkok and Koh Samui in Thailand. Finally we stopped in the Maldives for a week on the way home. We would definitely recommend all those locations but especially Thailand for the food and the people."
Congratulations Roisín and Alan! A very special thank you to the couple and to SOSAC Photography for sharing this magnificent wedding with One Fab Day. There are also plenty more amazing photos from their special day to check out in the gallery below!
