Elegant Tradition: How to do a Christmas Wedding

The perfect wedding inspiration if you're saying I do at Christmas...

When it comes to a winter wedding, there really is no better time to get married than during the Christmas break. Family and friends are all around, love is in the air, and everyone just wants to celebrate. But when it comes to decorating a Christmas wedding things can get tricky. It can be a difficult balancing act: festive but not over the top or inadvertently tacky. Subtle is not usually the word associated with Christmas, but for this wedding inspiration Jordan Dull of  I Do…Weddings & Events and Be Still Photography, brought together the traditional colours of Christmas: dark green, rich red and deep gold, into something altogether elegant. This is a proper Christmas wedding, without a hint of Lapland or Santa's grotto.

To set the mood the opulent U.S. Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego was chosen as both the shoot venue and as the inspiration. The hotel is historic with oodles of charm and old school beauty, making it the perfect backdrop for this luxe, Christmas wedding inspiration shoot.

With a lot going on in the venue and decor the bride and groom's style was kept simple and chic. The drama comes through with the use of deep dark purple bouquets and unusual fern boutonnières. Simple, yet totally Christmassy.

If you're stuck on how to decorate your ceremony space, keeping it simple is again the best option. Ferns and candle light are the perfect go-tos for a wedding that's both Christmassy and chic.

Deep reds, veering almost towards ox-blood, are used as an accent colour throughout adding drama and depth. A much richer alternative to the classic Santa Claus red.

The table settings introduce more dark greens, rich reds and deep golds using both florals and linens. So luxurious, and the prefect inspiration for both wedding tables and your own Christmas dinner table at home. If you're spending money on a fabulous cake be sure to put some thought into styling your cake table. One of the easiest options is to have a beautiful backdrop to place it in front of, in this case this fab duck egg blue and gold wall detailing. Pine cones on top add a simple wintery vibe, alternatively you could use winter berries or flowers.
