Big Balloons and Bigger Smiles: Jackie & Martin

A Trudder Lodge wedding laden down with gorgeous ideas

When today's bride, Jackie told us she chose her wedding dress so she could eat in it, we knew she was a lady after our own hearts! And when you see her & Martin's real wedding, you'll be entirely smitten too! Jackie & Martin live in New York, but they returned to the groom's native County Wicklow for their beautiful wedding at Trudder Lodge. While the couple focused on giving their guests a great day with fabulous food and an open bar (always appreciated!), they did make room for lots of personal touches too. This one is packed with gorgeous ideas, and Lucy Nuzum Photography captured them all beautifully.

Jackie & Martin met in NYC where they both still live today, “Martin is a native of Wicklow, Ireland and I am a native New Yorker,” Jackie tells us. “After a few bars, runs in Central Park, and years living together, Martin proposed in Florence, Italy, with copious amounts of Italian wine. We decided to get married in Dublin to honor Martin’s family and background (and because our friends really wanted to see Ireland).”

The couple had their wedding rings custom made - choosing your dads as you ring bearers is such a sweet touch!

Jackie describes her and Martin’s wedding day as relaxed and fun, “We were told lots of food and open bar both help. It was also a really beautiful day out, so we got to take advantage of the beautiful gardens in Trudder Lodge.”

A great day for it!

The couple were eager to create an atmosphere that wasn’t too formal, “There weren’t too many details we were concerned with except for catering. The food had to be great. I chose my wedding dress specifically so I can eat. Niamh from Trudder Lodge helped orchestrate the day with perfection and Andrew and Tracey from Andrew Holmes Catering were absolutely brilliant.”

I love Jackie's Catherine Deane wedding dress - it works so well with the romantic feel of the day, and her bouquet is pretty gorgeous too!

With so many guests travelling, the pair loved that they could make Trudder Lodge their home from home, “We were able to rent it out for three days, which gave us the flexibility to host a couple of different events. Our parents got to spend time together on Friday evening. On Saturday (the day of the wedding), it was large enough to have people sit in various rooms outside of the banquet area. On Sunday, we hosted a BBQ. It felt like renting a large home with a giant garden you can explore!’

Jackie’s bridesmaids each chose their own dress for the wedding - the mix of blush and sparkle is fab!

We're always partial to some giant balloons around here!

With 100 guests in attendance, Jackie & Martin say it was their family and friends who made the day really special, “80% of the guests came from outside the immediate Wicklow area. It was wonderful to have so much love and support that day.”

The couple decorated their reception with pretty florals and sprigs of greenery

Such a great idea - you'll never be stuck for what to do on date night again!

Jackie has a simple nugget of advice for other couples, “Don’t stress the small stuff. It all works out perfectly.”

So many little touches!

There's always one!

Looks like the speeches went down a storm!

The couple jetted off to Bermuda for their honeymoon. And… we’re officially jealous.

Such a sweet shot of Jackie on the dancefloor, but this last shot has to be our fave!

So much love in the room! Thanks so much to Jackie & Martin for letting us in our their big day - and of course to Lucy Nuzum Photography for sharing her wonderful work.
