The DIY projects in today's real wedding can only be described as next-level! Liverpool couple Jenny and Stephen put so much hard work and creativity into their big day at Plas Dinam Country House in Wales, and, as a result, their wedding looks completely unique, not to mention, really fun. Between hand-painted wine glasses, DIY hanging installations, and what can only be described as an epic wedding cheese cake, this celebration was full of delightful, unexpected treats. It's safe to say that we are incredibly jealous of Jenny and Stephen's guests! Cassandra Lane took lots of beautiful photographs on the day, and we're very grateful to have those to share with you!
Jenny tells us that she met Stephen just over 10 years ago. "I was on a year out before university, working in Nandos," she remembers. "I saw Ste over the grill on my trial shift. When he came out after the shift in a Metallica T-shirt, the deal was sealed!"
Stephen popped the question during Jenny's final exams at university. "After being a guinea pig for mine and my housemate's revision, he managed to drag me out to drive to a beautiful spot in the New Forest. It was raining and the only way he could think to get out of the car was to pretend like he was going to relive himself. Romance."
Jenny and her Mum made the cool and colourful pom poms that adorn the ceremony and reception spaces, including an amazing hanging pom pom installation. Keep scrolling to see it!
Jenny and Stephen tell us that their number one priority for the big day was making their guests feel welcome. "We wanted a really relaxed day where everyone felt comfortable and included, and there were lots of places for people to relax if they wanted to get away from it all."
Great music was also high on the wish list for this pair. "We wanted everyone to have a bloody good party, so music was important," Jenny says. "Drumbike DJ Dillon was incredible, although every song me and Ste had chosen cleared the dancefloor!" A drumbike DJ is exactly what it sounds like - click on the gallery at the end of the post for a proper look!
Jenny describes their wedding as, "relaxed and personal. We wanted every guest to feel like a VIP, because we knew the best way to enjoy the day was to see everyone else having fun. I think we achieved that by the amount of falls on the dancefloor and the colour of my dress at the end of the night!"
Jenny says she loved every minute of DIYing she did for the wedding. "It meant lovely bonding time with my Mum and Ste," she says. "We wanted everyone to feel special, so we made personalised invites and painted personalised wine glasses for the favours and I think everyone left with a bottle of booze. It sparked lots of hobbies - after making the popcorn stand and bar, I now enjoy a bit of woodwork!"
There are literally too many DIY details to mention in this real wedding. Even the dried-lavender table runners were made by Jenny, using lavender from her Mum's garden!
Jenny tells us that they chose Plas Dinam Country House as their venue because it ticked three major boxes. "There was no corkage fee, and it provided a chance for a lot of our guests to stay with us, so we could have a full-blown party. It helped that it was absolutely beautiful as well!"
Jenny's advice to engaged couples is to prioritise, right from the beginning. "Decide what’s important to you and focus your time on that," she says. "And try not to panic! The day is going to be absolutely magical no matter what, because you’re surrounded by so much love. Also no one is going to notice if the water is in glass or plastic bottles after a bottle of wine!"
This gorgeous installation may be our favourite piece of pom pom décor yet!
For late-night food, the couple booked a pancake van to pull up at the venue and serve sweet and savoury crêpes. Is this not the best idea ever!? We're also big fans of the bee wine glasses that Jenny hand painted for each guest. If you're looking for sustainable wedding favour ideas, this is a great option!
For their honeymoon, Jenny and Stephen went to Pantelleria, a small island off the coast of Sicily. "We had a dammuso (a type of house native to Pantelleria) with a private pool up a cliff edge," Jenny says. "It was the most romantic and beautiful place we have ever been, we would thoroughly recommend it!"
We certainly won't be forgetting about this wedding in a hurry! At this point, we've got to say a huge thank you to Jenny and Stephen for letting us peek behind the curtains of their big day, and to Cassandra Lane for sharing the beautiful photographs!
