Their intimate destination wedding day was celebrated amongst 25 of the couple's loved ones under the sizzling June sunshine and picture-perfect surroundings provided by Portugal's natural backdrop. Prepare to be transported and fall in love with every little detail from the pastel florals and pretty bridal party style to the al-fresco dining setting of dreams at Sintra Marmóris Palace. Photographer Pedro Filipe captured all the precious moments from this fabulous Sintra wedding day, and has shared them with us below!
Niamh and Kevin, our childhood sweethearts from Ireland met at a disco when they were sweet sixteen. As for the proposal, Kevin sealed the deal on a rainy beach day in Ireland, Niamh said: "The proposal was short and sweet. The groom is not into theatrics!" Their lovestory led them to the charming Portuguese city of Sintra where the couple are ready to begin the next chapter.
Brown leather shoes tie the whole ensemble together, as Kevin and his dapper groomsmen opted for a beautiful navy and light grey palette.
Bride Niamh opted for a satin strapless a-line gown with crumbcatcher neckline. She wore her up in a perfect yet effortless upstyle. Her bouquet comprised a mixture of peach and cream roses, blue delphinium and creamy carnations, the perfect summer-filled bouquet.
Summing up their Sintra wedding day in a couple of sentences, they said: We always wanted to have a destination wedding, where we could have the ceremony outside. We wanted to make it into a holiday for our family and friends. It was important to us that the atmosphere on the day was relaxed, the food and wine were good and our guests could dance the night away! We are not religious and we wanted our ceremony to be personal to us."
The dusty-blue floral bridesmaid dresses served as the idea for the exquisite floral decor on the day. "We hired a company to take care of the decorations," says Niamh. "We wanted a flower arch for the ceremony and a romantic, rustic decor for the tables. The flower arrangements on the day made the table settings beautiful. We sent the decoration company pictures of the bridesmaid's dresses and they matched the flower colours to the dresses."
The most amazing Portuguese landscape of undulating mountains and terracotta houses could be seen from the alfresco reception.
The couple had set out some important priorities when planning their sun-drenched wedding day in Portugal. Saying their own vows and choosing their own ceremony music and first dances were the most personal aspects to both Niamh and Kevin. "Our favourite aspects were the ceremony itself and seeing all of our friends and family enjoy themselves," they added.
They also both wanted to feel comfortable and choose outfits that would not be too hot in the sun. "My wedding dress style was chosen based on what style of dress suited my figure the most and made me feel most beautiful in," said Niamh.
The beautiful gardens at Sintra Marmóris Palace provided a gorgeous backdrop for the couples portraits. The blue Allium azureum's tie in with the couple's pastel palette perfectly!
The wedding speeches began once the meal was served. The surrounding trees started to twinkle as the sun set, creating a magical atmosphere for the music and dancing to take place at night.
