Fairytale Romance: Alexandra & Greg's Longueville House Wedding

This destination wedding is the ultimate happily ever after...

Years ago, when daydreaming about what my wedding might look like one day, I came across a real wedding right here on One Fab Day in Longueville House and fell in love with the venue. So, it'll come as no surprise for you to hear that today's wedding is a winner for me! Alexandra and Greg chose the gorgeous Cork venue for their incredibly romantic day that feels like something straight from a fairytale. The beautiful venue fulfilled their dreams of having a destination wedding here in Ireland and they fulfilled ours by sharing it all with us. Magda Lukas Photography captured the entire day wonderfully, we're sure you'll agree.

Alexandra and Greg met on a night out in Boston when he spotted her from across a room - yes, really. "Greg was out celebrating his birthday with work friends," Alexandra told us. "I was out with some college friends and Greg says he spotted me across the room and the rest is history. I had recently been on holiday to Ireland and couldn't believe Greg had never been. He promised we would go together for his next birthday and sure enough, a year later to the date, we were sat in a bar in Kerry. That was the first time we spoke about getting married in Ireland and what started out as a joke became a reality."

While plans for their wedding started thousands of miles from home, the proposal happened right in their back yard. "We were living in Boston while I was in medical school and Greg was working in advertising," Alexandra told us. "Greg suggested that we take our dog Bruiser for a sunset stroll along the Charles River Esplanade. We walked out to one of the docks and Greg got down on one knee right there. His friends Solon and Rachel were undercover, hiding in the bushes and snapped photos of the whole thing. I said 'yes' and they popped out of the bushes with a bottle of bubbly to celebrate!"

This couple knew pretty much straight away exactly where they wanted to say their 'I dos' and it was back in the place they spoke about getting married for the first time. "We knew we wanted a small, intimate wedding from the beginning, and by having a destination wedding, that allowed us a day or two to spend with our guests leading up to the big day," Alexandra told us. "It also allowed our guests to get to know each other, so by the time our big day came around, they were all comfortable with each other which made for a fun party and a really fun dance floor!"

As for a vibe, Alexandra and Greg wanted the fairytale. "We wanted something intimate and ethereal," Alexandra said. "Think fairy gardens - that was the vibe we were going for. The day itself was magical, filled with so much love and support from our close friends and family."

And the venue that made those dreams come true - Longueville House. "We had plans to visit several venues on our trip to Ireland," Alexandra explained. "However, when we opened the car door to the nostalgic smell of hedge flowers after driving up the winding, romantic driveway of Longueville House and the dog ran to welcome us, we knew we had found our wedding venue. Needless to say, we cancelled the rest of our appointments and spent the rest of the week exploring the secret gardens and rolling meadows of Longueville House."

Choosing the venue also meant they could hire out the entire space for their big day, giving them total privacy. "The whole weekend felt so special and personal and having the space to ourselves made it even more so," Alexandra gushed. This is one of the things we were most focused on when looking for venues. We also had our own signature cocktails at the bar making it feel even more personal."

Alexandra and Greg's advice to other couples is all to help minimise the stress of the wedding planning process so listen up. "Use a wedding planner, especially for the day of," they say. "It allowed us to relax and not worry about logistics. You won't be able to please everybody so try and stay focussed on what you want the day to be. Don't get bogged down in the details."

Thanks so much to today's couple Alexandra and Greg for sharing their incredibly sweet day with us, for taking us back to my favourite Longueville House, and to Magda Lukas for capturing it all.
