Vows in the Rain at Ballintubbert: Aisling & John

Stylish and relaxed in equal measures

Aisling and John told us their wedding day was 'relaxed, fun and completely us!' and that's exactly what we want to hear! Their real wedding at Ballintubbert House was effortlessly cool and entirely laid-back, with a firm focus on good times and great food. The pair enjoyed every moment of their day, saying their vows in the rain, exploring the gardens for their photo session with DK Photo and dining and dancing the night away in the beautiful on-site pavilion at Ballintubbert. A little drizzle wasn't going to dampen the day for these two!

Aisling tells us how she and John first met in their late teens, “John and my brother were good friends,” she explains. “We started bumping into each other, became friends and started to fall in love. John then started to come to our house to see me and not my brother…..and that was it!”

Well hello there, heart shoes!

Aisling tells us she still slags John a lot for his proposal! “He hijacked his birthday that I had planned for him!” recalls the bride. “It was December and went to Dublin Zoo to go to the Wild Lights, I had gotten the tickets as we had been on safari in South Africa the December previous and I thought it was a fun way to remember it. After several laps of the zoo, John found a quiet corner and got down on one knee…..it was perfect!”

Aisling's bridesmaids looked radiant in lavender bridesmaids dresses - a hue I have a feeling we'll see a lot more of this summer. As for Aisling's gown, the bride wore a stunning dress with a floral lace bodice, that fell into a high-low train - it's so unusual and so pretty!

This couple sum up their wedding in a short and sweet way, “Relaxed, fun and completely us!”

The pair tell us they wanted the wedding to reflect themselves, “We are both extremely laid back and like to have a lot of fun, so that’s exactly what we wanted our wedding to be, and it was! The food and music were really important to us as well, as we wanted our guests to enjoy the day as much as we did. But spending time with our friends and family on the day was our biggest priority, we didn’t want to waste time traveling or on long car journey’s away from everyone.”

The pair said their vows by the pond in front of Ballintubbert House - such a stunning spot for an outdoor ceremony.

The cool, relaxed atmosphere is what made Ballintubbert the one for Aisling and John. “Dominique, their wedding coordinator was fantastic, she had a way of being so calm and laid back while being extremely efficient, she made the planning very easy for us. As I said above, spending time with our guests was a big priority, so finding a venue where we could get married, take gorgeous photos and have the reception was a must. We are also both very outdoorsy people, and Ballintubbert is all about the gardens and being outside which we loved (even if it did rain a little!)”.

Making a weekend of it helped the couple to fully embrace a laid-back wedding, “Our families and closest friends being with us at the venue the night before and the day of the wedding. We had a beautiful dinner the night before the big day with our nearest and dearest in Ballintubbert House and that was really special. Being able to say ‘I Do’ outdoors in the rain was really cool and having our dogs there was really fun too.”

Ukebox ensured guests were well- entertained throughout the drinks reception!

These two have some words of wisdom to impart on other couples, "Don’t stress the little things, don’t let the weather stress you (you can’t control it) and don’t be afraid to relax and get your dress muddy, you only wear it for one day and have as much fun as possible.”

Aisling and John decked the venue out with simple, rustic decor, the gold cutlery and sprigs of lavender were a stylish touch!

The pair embraced the pressed flower trend with their table numbers.

The newlyweds jetted off to Greece for a well-earned honeymoon, “We went to Santorini the week after the wedding and it was phenomenal, the views are breathtaking and the food is delicious, we would highly recommend it!”

Thank you so much to Aisling and John for sharing your beautiful bash with us - and to DK Photo for sending it our way. Make sure you visit the gallery below for a closer look at all the details!
