You know we're partial to a wedding cake trend around here. But today we're talking about a trend that's so understated, we have a feeling it might be here to stay; the one tier wedding cake. As more and more couples are opting for unfussy, laid-back weddings, we've been noticing cakes are getting pared back too (remember the naked wedding cake trend!) and our own Irish bakers are leading the way. This substance over style approach is resulting in chic, delicious, beautiful cakes, without all the fuss of a three-tiered creation. So for your delectable pleasure, a round-up of 10 gorgeous one tier wedding cakes - you might want to put the kettle on for this one.

Tips for Having a One-Tiered Wedding Cake
- A small wedding cake is a great opportunity to go big on flavour. Think of rich combinations you might not get away with in a bigger bake; cherry and chocolate, pistachio and raspberry, hazelnut, sticky toffee or salted caramel - anyone else getting hungry?
- Get creative with the decoration on a one tier wedding cake - you still want it to look special. Fresh flowers, a cool cake topper, or gilded fruit all work well.
- Think about how your one tier wedding cake will be displayed, you don't want it to look lost on a big table. Talk to your venue about the best place to display it, a side table, on a high cake stand, with some family photos or as part of a bigger dessert display are all good ideas.
- Let them eat cake! While there is often a whole tier left over with a bigger cake, if you're opting for a single tier, you do want to make sure you have enough to go around. Talk to your baker about how many guests your cake will feed, and opt for some additional cupcakes, brownies or cookies if you think you'll be short.
