When Lizzie met Andrew she fell madly in love, when Andrew met Lizzie he just didn't see the romantic connection. (Heartbreaker right?) None the less they became best friends, and as you may have guessed, as the years passed Andrew began to see the connection Lizzie knew was there all along. Once this realisation was clear Lizzie and Andrew became the perfect item and celebrated this love at a beautiful Northern wedding on the grounds of the Mussenden Temple. Lets take a peak, courtesy of NavyBlur...
Adorable bride Lizzie tells us their love story, or saga as she phrases it..."It is a long saga…. That worked out beautifully in the end!! We met on my (Lizzie's) first night in Aberdeen University at a BBQ. We got chatting by agreeing to plot a big joke on a mutual friend, and that was that, I was smitten. I (Andrew) on the other hand took a little longer to come around to the idea…Well 3 more years longer. So a good few years of being best friends passed – late night study sessions, trips to see the northern lights, hikes up mountains and picnics in the park. Many friends, family and even passers by telling me that she had to “get over him”…luckily I was hooked to the good old northern Irish charm and rugged looks (lolz) and didn’t quite give up. I (Andrew) just took a tad longer to realise what I always knew – and when I did, that was that."
Finally realising Lizzie was the love of his life Andrew proposed. Lizzie remembers the day..."I was a TOTAL grump post-night shift and Andrew was being annoyingly cheerful suggesting a big walking adventure on my beloved north coast. After being dragged out of bed and kicked out the door by my mother we headed off to Portbradden. En route I declared “I don’t even like Portbradden” (which anyone who has ever been there knows is a complete lie – how could you not), I winged and moaned the whole way. The sun was spitting the sky and we set off on our walk – we didn’t make it very far when Andrew suggested that we clamber up a hill which is off the Ulster Way and juts out into the sea."
Lizzie continues..."Once I scrambled to the top I was met with not only a glorious view a surprise picnic. Think green wrought iron garden table and chairs, wicker basket, blankets, 13 bunches of sunny daffodils perfectly placed around the grass and all of my favourite food (including handmade macarons from a local patisserie). When I asked what all of this was about – I was met with a sheepish “I thought we should celebrate you finishing nights”… I WISH this happened every time!! (0: We hung out there for a couple of hours and then out came our letter book with some hilarious stick-men illustrations and a lovely letter, after reading Andrew was down on one knee and said some pretty lovely things and was met with a huge grin and “YES!!” The rest of the day was beautiful – a walk in Whitepark day and then lots of excitement telling our families."
For their wedding Lizzie and Andrew wanted two things, a beautiful ceremony at Lizzie's local church and a big party where everyone could let loose. Lizzie tells us..."We are both christians and so the most important aspect for us was the wedding service. It took place in my home church and we had so many people who we love taking part – Jonny, our minister lead the service with such poignancy, my dad did the preach, our wonderful uni pals prayed over us, our family read great passages from the bible and our friends sang and lead the worship. It really was an important and beautiful way to begin the celebrations."
After the ceremony the ladies at the church organised afternoon tea treats for everyone to enjoy. Lizzie gushes with appreciation..."It was so kind and we were so blessed by how they beavered away; baking dozens of scones, making marshmallow pops, dipping chocolate strawberries, fizzing up elderflower cordial and serving everyone."
Once afternoon tea was gobbled up Lizzie and Andrew invited guests to party on the grounds of Mussenden Temple, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on the north-western coast of Northern Ireland.
An impressive clear roof marquee was erected on the grounds and filled with handmade crochet bunting and banners, bespoke designed stationery, a homemade wedding cake and impressive stationery creations by Lizzie's sister. Lizzie admires..."A huge shout goes to my sister and best pal NFlem Designs – Naomi is insanely talented. I cannot even begin to understand her creativity, I have always and will always be one of her biggest fans, but boy did she out do herself this time!! She created some bespoke art for our invitations, and soon that wreath was on everything!!"

To complete their day Lizzie and Andrew danced all night under twinkling festoon lighting, before jetting off on the honeymoon of a lifetime. Lizzie describes (and makes us instantly jealous)..."We headed off on a big Cape Town adventure the day after the wedding. It was UNREAL. We did not do the classic relaxing beach holiday – instead we stayed in a nature reserve and hiked, cycled, surfed, para-glided, ate, drank, swam and explored everything that Cape Town had on offer. It is an exceptionally cool city and we would highly recommend it to anyone!"
Huge congratulations to you both and thanks so much for sharing your wedding day with us all! A big thank you also goes to NavyBlur for sharing their work with us. To see more from NavyBlur visit www.navyblur.co.uk
