Today's real wedding is spilling over with Pinterest-worthy ideas that we know you are going to absolutely love, but what really impresses us about Doireann and Conor's big day in Mount Druid is that there's actually a story behind every last detail! Between traditional treats from the country in which they met, to table runners echoing Doireann's love of literature, this wedding was chic, but also children's book-level magical, and Lima-Conlon Photography have got the images to prove it!
Just when you thought bride and groom miniatures were only for cakes, the folk at Irregular Choice design these sensational heels!
Doireann and Conor aren't one of those couples with a long and winding how-we-met story! Doireann simply tells us, "we hit it off and have been together since!"
The couple kicked off their wedding day with a romantic first look in the gardens at Mount Druid. What a lovely moment!
The first of many book-themed touches appeared at the ceremony, where a colourful wreath on the chapel door read, "Welcome to our next chapter."
We are suckers for an elaborate proposal here at One Fab Day, but we also love to hear about couples who got engaged simply because they both knew that the time was right, which is exactly what happened in this case! "There was no proposal," Doireann explains. "We made a mutual decision to formalise things."
Doireann and Conor's ceremony space is actually like something out of a storybook! It's centred around a showstopping installation, made from tiny paper cranes.
This loved-up pair invited family members to contribute to their ceremony. "My brother Conall and Conor’s sister Kate read during the ceremony," Doireann says, "and Conor’s family played music during the ceremony."
They set three main priorities for their wedding - "Good food, good music and good craic!" - but they also wanted to show lots of personality in their choices. "We wanted parts of us woven throughout the day," Doireann says.
Even the couple's post-ceremony cocktail and snack had meaning! "We met in France so the welcome drink (Kir Royale) and biscuits (Roses de Reims) were a nod to that."
Conor took a brief break from celebrating to give his guests a couple of tunes on the bagpipes! "Traditional Irish music featured quite a bit throughout the day," Doireann tells us.
Hogwarts, Narnia or Wonderland? Don't make us choose!
Can you believe that Doireann made these gorgeous table runners herself? "I'm a bit of a bookworm," she says, "so we named the tables after places in books and used old books to decorate!"
Doireann and Conor tell us that they fell for Mount Druid pretty quickly. "From the moment we visited to view the venue, we felt at home. Anything we asked was catered for."
In the end, they got exactly the kind of chilled-out day they dreamed of! "The vibe was laid-back," Doireann says. "We didn’t want much formality. What we wanted to focus on was celebrating our relationship with our friends and family."
How beautiful is this vibrant, rustic bouquet by A Room in Bloom? Those rich reds really tie the bridal and groom's parties together!
Doireann and Conor's advice to couples is to "spend money on things that matter. It can be so easy to lose the run of yourself! We set a budget from the start and spent money on our priorities – good food and music. We didn’t send any posted invites – everything was done online. We set up a wedding website and sent invites by email. We also set up a secret Facebook group to give reminders to guests about things!"
The couple paid another tribute to their time in France by treating guests to a café gourmand, AKA coffee and a selection of tiny pastries and sweets. "It was the hit of the night!" Doireann tells us.
Doireann's brother Conall made the cheese cake topper - these little guys are too cute!
Doireann and Conor haven't been on honeymoon yet, as they had another exciting milestone to reach first. "We moved into our new home!" Doireann says. "We will go on honeymoon in the future but it's not planned yet!"
That looks like the kind of party we want to be invited to! Thanks so much to Lima Conlon Photography for sharing these gorgeous images, and of course, to Doireann and Conor for tell us all about how they put their big day together.
