I'm excited and delighted to share today's gorgeous real wedding with you, it has all the good stuff included in one day! For starters, bride Emily is uber stylish, crafty and full of ideas that she managed to visualise and carry through into each element of the wedding day. Secondly, groom Gabe ia a real sweetie (and secret romantic) who supported Emily in her quest to create a unique and beautiful day for both of them. Oh and did I mention it all took place on an epic Idaho farm? The photographs by dream team Dylan and Sara Photography are stunning, so join us as we check out Emily and Gabe's delightful outdoor celebration...
So how did these cool cats meet? Well at a foam party (didn't expect that did you!)... We met in Boise a week or two before I moved up to McCall to work as a wild-fire firefighter. We were both at a foam party and we ended up standing by a huge bowl of bubble gum so I challenged him to a contest of the largest bubble. I won, of course and he asked for my number at the end of the night. So a double win...
We really hit it off, but it was hard to stay in contact once I moved. My phone service was terrible or nonexistent and I was gone for weeks at a time on fires, but Gabe would find ways to come visit McCall the few times I was working in town. Our first real date was a weekend trip to Sun Valley in September. We climbed Mt. Borah, Idaho’s tallest mountain, then stayed at the Sun Valley lodge for the Idaho Jazz Festival. We dated for almost 3 years before we got married, but I knew after that weekend that if we could both have the time of our lives climbing dreadfully steep mountains together and enjoy the finer pleasures of food and music, we had found something rare and special.
Can you see why these guys are so cool? Bride Emily donned a pretty slick fishtail plait with her bridal look, complete with feather accessories. For her wedding dress, Emily picked up a gorgeous (not mention a bargain) gown from David's Bridal, it was on sale for $99! The perfect dress to suit the rustic meets modern celebration the couple had planned.
Emily wanted to incorporate geometric shapes into the wedding day and she started with her jewellery - a large gem statement necklace from (a One Fab Day favourite) J.Crew.
So back to the story, Gabe claims he isn't romantic, but he sure did manage to get his romantic juices flowing when it came to popping the question...Gabe keeps saying he isn’t good at being romantic, but he remembers special dates and details better than me. That's why we remembered a special day in McCall when he tried to teach me to fly fish at Boulder lake and that's the day we had our first kiss, so he chose to propose to me at the same location. Of course none of it went to plan, my Ford Focus couldn’t handle the snow and inclining road so it gave out halfway. Gabe insisted we hike the rest of the way and frankly, at first I was oblivious about the history of how special the location was and instead was annoyed about it being so cold. We had our two English pointers running off constantly to leap around in the snow so when we got to the lake and Gabe pulled out the ring to propose, it was interrupted by calling out to the pups to come back over and over! Still we came back happy and engaged. In hindsight, the reality of the proposal was much more endearing and thoughtful. Turns out Gabe can be pretty good at being romantic!
Like Emily, Gabe has a flair for style. Along with his groomsmen he wore a shirt from, Charles Tyrwitt, each groomsmen bought their own pants and tie and Emily and Gabe gifted them cuff links, which were a souvenir from a trip to New Zealand. Gabe completed his own look with vintage shoes from a thrift store.
The couple's wedding planner sourced the flowers from Greenleaf wholesaler in Boise and Emily's mum and sister assembled them. The bouquet is stunning, don't you think? The perfect mix of green and white with a warm peach shining through - love it!
Have you spotted the pink origami cranes tied onto Emily's bouquet? A sweet way to carry the geometric theme (and you will see the theme in loads of the decor elements later) through the whole day and an easy DIY project if you have the patience!
Ah our favourite new tradition - the 'First look'. So many couples are taking the opportunity to spend some quality time and calm the nerves with their loved one. I personally love the photographs that they produce, so intimate and romantic and something each couple will treasure, I'm sure!
Emily's bridesmaids are in gorgeous shades of navy blue. They brought the dresses themselves from Macys and TJ Max and they all look stunning. If you choose a core colour and allow your bridesmaids to choose their own dress, it's likely they will be comfortable and at ease and this will shine through on the day. You can always go dress shopping with them - who doesn't like a ramble through the shops! It's a trend we are seeing more and more and if you're thinking of doing it for your own wedding, check out our mix and matching bridesmaids dresses post for inspiration and tips.
When it came to planning their wedding day, the pair dabbled with the idea of eloping, but decided to have a wedding with family and friends and if they were going to have a wedding, then it was going to be beautiful and unique, filled with great food and their nearest and dearest...We wanted to express our creativity and thoughtful preparation. We wanted it to be elegant and a big welcoming party for everyone! I was anxious putting all the pieces together, but after set-up was done it was one of the most satisfying days myself and Gabe have had together.
Being lovers of the outdoors the pair chose to have their ceremony outside and we can see why, the landscape of their venue is simple stunning - what a backdrop to say I do to the one you love.
The pair continued the pink origami cranes theme in their ceremony, using them as a bright and delicate ceremony backdrop.
It's official for Emily and Gabe!
When it came to choosing their venue (I'm sure you've loved the snaps so far!) Eagle Idaho's surrounding green fields and beautifully sculpted backyard sealed the deal for the pair and it was lent to the couple by a family friend, the lucky ducks!
The theme for the wedding reception was carefully constructed by Emily (with the help of her hubby, Gabe of course!) They wanted a rustic, warm feel with geometric urban influences and a relaxed and laid back summer party vibe. They achieved this with crafty handmade decor and a wedding dinner of rich grilled vegetable pizzas and pastas, fresh fruit desserts all served on white linens.
I planned the whole day, down to the last detail and Gabe was onboard all the way. On the day of the wedding he was amazingly supportive and motivated to execute all my planning and prep. It was the most reassuring part of the day to know I had someone who was committed to making sure our efforts were as perfect as we wanted them to be. At the end of the night Gabe said he didn’t know if he could have ever planned a better party in his life. We were overwhelmed by the turnout from all those that came to support us. We had nearly double the amount show up than we expected. It brought tears to both our eyes for all the warm support. It was the best party ever!
So what advice did Emily and Gabe have for couples planning their own wedding day? If you have to set up on the same day as your wedding, plan a massage or something relaxing to help you shift gears once you are getting dressed and ready. It helps you refocus on why the day is really important. Your impending I dos. Sage advice from Emily, if you have to do some running around on the day make sure to give yourself time to regroup and relax!
A huge congratulations to Emily and Gabe! Of course a big Thank You goes to Dylan and Sara Photography for sharing their work with us at One Fab Day. To see more of their work pop over to www.dylandsara.com
