Sunshine has returned to our shores it seems (even if it is colder than Antarctica out there) - and we have the perfect real wedding accompaniment this morning to share - a sunny summery yellow hued wedding that blends little country rose details with a touch of vintage decor. It's the beautiful golden wedding of Aisling and Dara, that took place in The Mill House in Slane, captured in all its glory by Penry Photography.
Describing the overall vibe for their wedding Aisling described it thus "We wanted our day to have a relaxed fun, more country feeling." And this is exactly the celebration they achieved - a symphony of country style including roses, ribbon, bunting, china and colour, the who
Every bridesmaid deserves shoes like these... sigh... And I think it was a cool idea for both Aisling and her bridesmaid to wear the same shoes - it's not matchy matchy but it does add a little motif to coordinate. And if you're wondering about the vintage style bridesmaid dress - well that was a little bit of DIY that Aisling did for her girl - she made a sash of old rose fabric to enhance the simple yellow dress.
I, for one, absolutely adore how Aisling kitted out her little flower girls and page boys - such a breath of fresh air to see children dressed in contemporary cool little outfits they can run around in, and wear over and over again after the wedding. So much cooler than little smocks and mini-communion dresses...
Aisling's strapless ballerina style 50s gown is actually an original vintage piece from Hayworth Vintage in Dublin. The white polka dot tulle lends a little whimsical fun to a very grown up dress.
"Myself and Dara went out for nearly three years when I was sixteen and he was nineteen but after a break of ten long years and many adventures for both of us we got back together, Dara bought the engagement ring five months after we got back together and kept it a secret until he proposed in Adare Manor exactly a year after we had reunited."
All kitted out and ready to meet her audience...
No, no! The guests! But the cattle did get a bird's eye view of proceedings...
"I loved our ceremony, we were married outside in a Humanist ceremony, it was fantastic because you can add a lot to the ceremony yourself. Susie Kennedy (from The Humanist Association of Ireland) celebrated our ceremony and she was just fantastic, made us feel so at ease. Our ceremony was held outside in the garden in front of the Millhouse overlooking the river Boyne. When I came out of the house and saw all our friends and family gathered together to celebrate with us and I saw Dara standing waiting for me, that was definitely the happiest memory of the day and one of the most memorable of our lives."
Awwwww... my personal favourite moment at weddings
Aisling looks so radiant, just the way every bride should be, and Dara looks as pleased as punch - as he should be too!
Making the most of the good weather and beautiful surroundings, Aisling and Dara also opted for a less traditional approach to the speeches because having them "outside in the sunshine on the steps of the house was much more relaxing."
And after all the excitement, the bride gets a little time to flake out before heading into the wedding feast, in the room she had so lovingly decorated. "I really enjoyed designing all of the invitations, name cards menus, table numbers, bunting and pulling all the different elements of the table decorations together. I used the rose print again to tie everything together and a navy and cream stripe on the stationery, I was really pleased with them. I got everything printed in Daintree and it was great value and they are so professional."
I bought a three tier wedding cake in Marks and Spencer, they do just plain white cakes and I used vintage ribbons to decorate it
So I for one am keen for any words of advice I can get from other brides, especially those whose days I truly admire, and Aisling is definitely someone whose bridal style I'm keen to emulate. What will she... "When planning your wedding you can go through certain stages when it can get a little stressful, just try and remember what the day is really about, you and your partner and your love for one another, although there may be moments if the ribbon on the invites is 2mm to wide and one shade off the colour of the bridesmaid shoes these things may drive you close to the edge of bridal insanity but in the grand scheme of the day they don't really matter, saying that I did love my handmade bunting and all the other little details I put into the day, just don't let it take over. Also try and leave some money to do something special for your honeymoon it really was the best time away we have ever had and I will always remember the place we went and what we saw."
