'A Wedding Day Fit For Royalty': Tom and Mackenzie

A gorgeous Martinstown House bash that's equal parts rustic and epic!

Today's real wedding proves that you can create the most beautiful celebration by fusing a couple of different styles - Tom and Mackenzie combined vintage-inspired details (caravan photo booth, anyone?) with regal bridal party style, in the elegant surroundings of Martinstown House, and the result was absolutely dreamy! Planned from 3,000 miles away at their home in Baltimore, Maryland, their destination wedding in Ireland was unique in a lot of ways, not least because it included an al fresco first dance! Ciara from Photography by Ciara was kind enough to share the photographs from the day, so let's take a closer look, shall we?

Before we hear all about how these two lovebirds met, we've got to take a moment to gush about Mackenzie's bridal look! Her Theia gown is simple yet luxurious - a total showstopper!

Mackenzie and Tom tell us that they met via the dating app, Hinge. "I was thinking about canceling our first date, but because Tom picked an exciting new restaurant, I figured I would at least go for the food. When I got to the restaurant and I saw how handsome Tom was, my eyes lit up. We sat down to eat, and spoke for about 40 minutes before we finally put in our order! We went to two other bars that night and partied to the wee hours. Eight months later we were engaged, and a year and half later, we were married!"

Mackenzie's engagement ring is so unique - it would be right at home in this post!

Tom decided to pop the question during a trip to France with Mackenzie's Mom, but, as he wanted to do it at the start of the trip, time was of the essence! "By the time the flight landed, we had an hour to get to the restaurant, and pick up my Mom from the hotel on the way," Mackenzie remembers. "When we finally sat down to the table for lunch, we were about a half hour late, but it didn't matter when Tom dropped to one knee. Both me and my Mom started to cry and I said yes! From there, we popped the champagne and enjoyed a 10-day trip around France."

Tom looks so smart in his kilt! And, might I add, so chuffed to be getting married!

For their wedding, Tom and Mackenzie pictured a remarkable bash that their guests would remember for years to come. "It was important that the wedding was a unique experience that was worth making the trip across the pond for! We wanted to celebrate with top notch food, drink and conversations with every single guest."

Among the couple's highlights were having Mackenzie’s Dad perform the ceremony and "being able to celebrate the day with our family and friends."

When they went to view Martinstown House, Mackenzie and Tom were really impressed by, "the distinctive Irish countryside feel and the wonderful family that owns and operates the venue. Because of this, planning the wedding from abroad was simple. And living on site for the days leading up to the wedding made us feel like royals vacationing in a country manor!"

Mackenzie describes their big day as, "a rustic, elegant wedding fit for royalty, with close family and friends and a joyous atmosphere."

Mackenzie's girls wore forest green bridesmaids dresses from Anthropologie and Reformation. This is really a foolproof colour for Irish weddings - it works so well with the wild, romantic landscape.

Martinstown House never fails to impress us - there are so many little nooks and crannies to explore!

The couple's reception décor was based around gold and greenery, which complimented the space at Martinstown House perfectly!

Mackenzie's advice to engaged couples is short and sweet. "Know what is truly important to you and then don’t worry about the rest." Yep, that just about sums it up!

After the wedding, Mackenzie and Tom headed off to Puglia, Italy, for their honeymoon. "We would totally recommend it," Mackenzie tells us. "It's beautiful yet simple, and not a tourist destination, so you have all the wonderful parts of holidaying in Italy - laying on the beach,  going to museums, eating wonderful food, etc. - at a reduced cost."

The couple placed Christmas crackers, complete with paper party hats, on the tables for the reception, even though it was a summer wedding! This is a first for us, but we have to admit that it looks quite festive!

The couple were also lucky enough to have their first dance outdoors, an extremely rare occurrence in Ireland!

A magical end to a magical day! Thanks so much to Tom and Mackenzie for allowing us to peek inside their big day, and to Photography by Ciara for sharing the beautiful images.
