When we asked Aleana, the gorgeous bride in today's real wedding, to tell us about her stunning Jesús Peiró wedding dress, she hit on a really interesting point. The owner of high-end rental boutique Covet, Aleana is a certified fashion expert, but says she struggled to tune out trends and Instagram inspo. In wedding planning, it can be so tough to set expectations aside and hone in on what makes you happy (as opposed to what you think a "cool couple" would do!), but when you see Aleana and Niall's celebration at Marlfield House, which is photographed beautifully here by Louise Scott Photography, I know you'll agree that it's stylish in a really authentic and timeless way. We thought it would be hugely helpful to share how these lovebirds went about making their key decisions, so let's dive in!
We've got to start with Aleana's jaw-dropping bridal look! "When it came to choosing a wedding dress, I was so indecisive," she says. "I had every intention of making my own dress, but I had several custom brides that I was designing with, and when it came down to it, I was designing with everyone else in mind! My brides are so cool and edgy and I’m not that cool!" Erm, we beg to differ, Aleana!
Aleana's sister and Mum pulled her out of her wedding dress rut when they suggested visiting a few bridal boutiques. "To my surprise, I found that I wanted a more traditional shape," she remembers. "My goal was to find a dress that had a traditional silhouette but was light and had texture, and this gold and silver brocade number from Jesús Peiró hit the nail on the head. In true Covet Style, I scoured the internet and found the dress and altered it in-house to fit my needs, adding pockets and pleats."
Now it's time to learn a little bit more about Aleana and Niall. These two Dubliners tell us that they met in quintessentially Irish fashion - on a night out in Hogan's Pub on George's Street!
Niall picked a really special place for his proposal - the garden of Aleana's parents' house in Riverchapel, Wexford. "On our wedding day, we had photos taken exactly on the spot where he proposed, right on the edge of Ireland with the sea in the background!"
This pair had a clear vision for their wedding day from the beginning. "We wanted a small, intimate wedding with our closest pals and family," Aleana tells us. "A house party was pretty much the theme, with good food, great music and even better company. We really didn’t get caught up in the small stuff, so the planning was stress-free. To be honest, we knew it would all come together."
All these lovely photographs of Aleana with her Dad are making us feel highly emotional!
Have you ever seen a more thrilled-looking couple!?
Food and drink was of the utmost importance for Aleana and Niall. "We really wanted it to be a treat for our guests," Aleana says. "Niall’s company, Murex, kindly sent down a few bottles of Bolinger for the reception. Anyone who didn’t fancy champers could have beer, or a gin and tonic served with Wexford strawberries, and then the food and service in Marlfield was just unbelieveable."
For her girls, Aleana chose fashion-forward white bridesmaids dresses from Covet. Meanwhile, Niall's groomsmen wore blue-grey, three-piece suits to compliment his impeccable navy suit from Louis Copeland & Sons. We are smitten with the overall wedding party look - the boys are rocking a classic colour combo, while the girls look slightly edgier thanks to the bridesmaids' pleated-hem dresses.
When choosing a venue, Aleana and Niall were swayed by a country house with a strong family connection. "Marlfield House has been a place I have visited since I was a child as it's close to my parents' holiday home, so it just felt right," Aleana says. "We loved the interiors, the food and the beautiful gardens."
Is this not the most beautiful part of the world!?
Asked for the couple's highlight from the day, Aleana says, "having our nearest and dearest with us to celebrate. We also loved the speeches. Everyone went to such effort, the speeches were just so special and thoughtful, not to mention witty."
Louise Scott took Alena and Niall to some of Wexford's many picturesque nooks and crannies for their wedding portraits and the results are just amazing!
We love how Aleana swapped her romantic mantilla veil, which was borrowed from her sister, Niamh, for a flower crown for the second half of her wedding day, proving that you can and should have the best of both worlds!
Aleana's advice to engaged couples is to, "enjoy the celebration with your guests, and don’t sweat the small stuff." Here, here!
For their honeymoon, Aleana and Niall went to Bali, Lombak and Dubai. "It was the trip of a lifetime and super chilled. We both read over five books - murder mysteries, which are our secret, shared love!"
The conservatory at Marlfield House has got to be one of the most breathtaking dining spaces in the whole country!
What an effortlessly beautiful day! Thanks so much to Aleana and Niall for sharing their wedding with us, and of course, to Louise Scott for providing the drop-dead gorgeous photographs!
