Dreaming of pretty winter florals and cosy winter style? Then this seasonal and super gorgeous real wedding is for you! Cavan based couple Ashlene and Noel said "I do" in an intimate ceremony at their local church before bringing their guests to Markree Castle in Sligo to be wined, dined and treated to a day and night of entertainment and dancing. Photography by Ciara captured this sweet couple and their beautiful big day which we're thrilled to share with you.
Ashlene and Noel tell us that their love story started on a night out were it was love at first sight! "We met on a night out in Sligo in February 2013. We both knew straight away that this was the real deal!! A Valentine's Day dinner followed and we've been eating dinner together ever since."
Noel popped the question while he and Ashlene were on holiday in Dubrovnik with a very scenic proposal! "Noel surprised me at the beginning of summer 2017 with a holiday. We saw the sights, kayaked around Lomruk Island and best of all, we had an amazing meal in Villa Orsula, after which he got on bended knee. With sunset views of the Adriatic Sea and the Old Town, sure who could say no?"
Ashlene found her pretty dress from Pearls & Lace which she paired with a gorgeous winter berry flower crown and a seasonal winter bouquet in rich burgundy tones.
Ashlene's gals wowed in dusty pink, lace detail bridesmaid dresses from ASOS, while flower girl Belle looked darling in a white lace dress and cosy coat. How adorable is her mini floral crown to match the bride?
Their small and intimate ceremony took place at the beautiful St. Felim's Church in rural Co. Cavan surrounded by family and closest friends.
Reflecting on the day, the couple agrees there are some very special stand-out moments. "Towards the end of the ceremony, my Nanny took to the altar to sing us a wedding blessing. She's an incredible woman and left the congregation in tears. It was one of those moments in your life when time seems to stand still. Another moment that stands out is walking down the aisle as husband and wife to the string quartet's version of Heroes by David Bowie. It still makes the hairs on my neck stand up. Looking left and right and seeing all the people you love in the one place, it's quite the feeling."
Ashlene describes the vibe she wanted for her and Noel’s winter wedding. "The ceremony took place in our little church up the mountain. With the remote location and the bare winter landscape, we really just ran with that and kept things simple. Lots of greenery, berries, burgundies and eucalyptus. It felt right to have nature and our beautiful surroundings at the heart of things. The flower crown and bouquet were in my mind from the very beginning (long before I found a dress!) They were everything I imagined and more. So I'm very lucky to have such a talented mama."
This pair say their best wedding planning advice came from Ashlene's mother Mary, and we are here for her wisdom! "As my mum always says, don't sweat the small stuff, I guess. Nobody will notice!! Just get the big ticket items right like the band, the food, the photographer. Choose the best suppliers that your budget will allow for."
The stunning flower designs were all created by Ashlene's talented mum Mary. Aren't they just fabulous?
We love how Ashlene cosied up for their couples portraits with mittens and a bridal jacket. Perfect winter wedding style!
The bride and groom fell hard for the warm and cosy atmosphere at Markree. "When you walk up the steps of the castle for the first time, it's hard not to be blown away. Markree is a magnificent venue. The open fires, the spectacular dining room, the quality of food and accommodation. Everything is of the highest standard. I suppose for us, the day started in our little church, as simple and rural as it could possibly be. But by choosing Markree Castle, we had the fairytale wedding that every couple dreams of."
The newlyweds jetted off to Santorini on honeymoon last summer which they highly recommend. "It was just beautiful."
