Under the Yews: Aoife & Jason's Magical Lisnavagh House Wedding Part 2

A touch of country house wedding magic.

I've fallen in love with just about everything about Aoife and Jason's love story and wedding celebration. From the way Jason told us how he and Aoife met, how their darling little boy Odhran helped his Mum with one extra special job, through to their magical ceremony under the Yews at Lisnavagh House. This is a story of how one family found each other, created life, celebrated their commitment to each other and their future with all they love. It's simply beautiful. We are thrilled to share it with you today thanks to Paula Gillespie who captured the magic...

Jason met the rest of Aoife's family before he ever saw and fell in love with Aoife. He explains... Aoife’s older sister Emer moved to Brighton where I was living and we became close friends. We were friends for a couple of years and I knew the rest of the family before I had even met Aoife. Then one day she came to visit and I was to meet them in a restaurant after I finished my work shift. I remember seeing her through the restaurant window and instantly fell for her. Up until that point, I hadn’t believed in love at first sight. We hit it off straight away. What followed was a long distance relationship for 2 and a half years before I finally moved to Ireland to be with her. Two years on and we had a beautiful boy, Ódhran and now, eight years after we met, we are husband and wife.

Breaking tradition, Aoife, with the help of baby Ódhran proposed to Jason. Jason recalls the day Aoife proposed... Aoife proposed to me at the Botanic Gardens in Drumcondra. It was where we had our first date on my first visit to Ireland to see her. I remember the morning we left she was wearing makeup (she doesn’t normally wear makeup - she is already gorgeous) which I thought was a bit odd but I didn’t twig. We sat down on a bench in a secluded part of the park which turned out to be the lover's bench (a happy coincidence). Aoife showed me a video with our son saying that we make a great family and asking me “would I make mummy very happy” I look up and Aoife was down on one knee. I said yes and she gave me her grandmother’s engagement ring which I (in shock) put on her wedding finger. In a haze of happiness, she then whisked me away to Brooke Lodge in Wicklow.

Aoife and Jason's magical outdoor ceremony was performed under the yew tree at Lisnavagh House & Gardens. The vibe was personal and intimate with Aoife's uncle Noel acting as officiant, friends providing acoustic music and handwritten vows. The happy couple tells us... The ceremony reflected each of our beliefs and that the entire celebration reflected who we are. That we got married as close to nature as possible involving our closest friends and family.

The understated style of the day was inspired with thanks to Pinterest. Aoife and Jason advise... Start with a theme and use Pinterest to create a board. It sounded ridiculous and tacky to me at the start but I quickly realised why people do it. It makes planning so much easier and if you have both chosen the theme together it becomes more of a team effort.

To complete their wedding day Aoife and Jason treated guests to lots of cheese and good music - what more could you want? Afterwards, they went on a family honeymoon with Ódhran. Aoife and Jason detail... We spent our first 2 nights in Mt Juliet followed by a “familymoon” in Cork with our 3-year-old son. The “familymoon” was amazing. We got to spend lots of good quality time with Odhran which made up for the time we missed with him on the lead-up and the day (it goes so fast). His grandparents picked him up and then we spent another 3 nights in a hidden one bedroom cottage in Kerry and finished up at Sheen Falls Lodge.
