From the Bride
Slaney tells us a little about her and Peter's love story...
Peter and I met when we were 19 and on holiday in Greece. He bought me a rose one night and the rest is history. We spent nearly 7 years living in London and they were the best years of our lives. We loved London but wanted to be closer to our families so we decided to move home in a July 2017.
Peter proposed while we were on holiday in Marrakech and it couldn't have been more perfect. My parents were on the holiday with us and we were all out having dinner in one of my favourite restaurants, Hakkasan which was in our hotel.
After dinner Peter said he wasn't feeling very well and was going to pop back to our villa. I won't lie, I didn't think much of it, as we've travelled a lot and we had eaten at a pretty questionable establishment during a tour earlier that day.
Peter then to ask if I could go to him as he wasn't well at all. I did (admittedly a bit reluctantly as we hadn't hadn't even had dessert yet). I got to the villa and having forgotten to bring my key, I knocked on the door. Peter answered without fully opening the door, half smiling. "You look fine," I said, rolling my eyes no doubt.
Then he opened the door and I saw candles and red petals EVERYWHERE. He was down on one knee and the first thing I said was typically stupid, "What are you doing" to which he replied, "What does it look like I'm doing".
We cried, laughed, kissed and had a glass of champagne and took it all in for a while before we went back to restaurant where it turned out the whole hotel knew and we celebrated the rest of dinner with my Mum and Dad which was so special as Peter knew how much it would mean to me to have them both there with us.
The venue was a foregone conclusion as it was my Dad's family home and from day one they couldn't have been more amazing. Mark, the Managing Director and Margaret the Wedding and Events Co-ordinator were truly beyond anything I could describe. Without them the day wouldn't have been what it was.
I didn't want a theme whatsoever but knew I wanted something with a 20s feel, so after a very traditional ceremony and most magical choir, we transformed the ballroom and had a big band and stunning gold decor and white centrepieces.
It all goes by so quickly so not getting stressed is so important, I was guilty of letting it overwhelm me at times, which was so stupid but working full time and planning a wedding can be pretty challenging! At the end of day, the single most important thing is you and your other half and the most important part isn't the day, it's the years ahead. So, while you want every part of the big day to be special, a year down the line, it's the people who were there and the emotions on the day that matter.
