Today's wedding is an absolute feast for the eyes and will definitely brighten your day. Bride Ana and groom Ricky filled their wedding celebration in Liss Ard Estate with so many unique twists and Latin-inspired colours that completely conveys their style - cheerful, joyful and completely artsy. With a wedding like this, we are dying to know what their house must look like! Magda Lukas was on hand to capture each and every vibrant moment!
First things first, Ana and Ricky met online on an internet dating website in 2008 and instantly hit it off. Two years later, the couple moved in together and now reside in a cottage in East London. But even before they moved in together, Ricky had his eye on the prize. In 2009, Ricky asked his grandmother if she had a ring he might propose to Ana with. Lo and behold, she did! So Ricky proceeded to carry the ring around with him for three (yes, three!) years until the perfect moment presented itself.

Fast forward to 2012, when the couple was vacationing in Tuscany...We stayed in a beautiful medieval hilltop town and spent 2 blissful weeks exploring the area in a rented Fiat 500 and soaking up the sun, food and culture. The day after Ricky's birthday we visited a sculpture park called 'Il Giardino di Daniel Spoerri'. As we moved from one artwork to the next, he analysed each for its proposal potential, until finally we arrived at a pergola made from scythes, with roses growing all along it. After suggesting they walk through the tunnel, hand in hand, he dropped to one knee and presented her with his grandmother's engagement ring. Once Ana accepted, the two spent the rest of the evening making plans for their wedding and decided to get married as soon as possible!
With friends and family surrounding them Ana and Ricky said 'I do' under a giant tree in the Liss Ard Estate gardens. Check out the colourful decor in the trees!
You might spot Ana's colourful charm, her bridesmaids' mother made a personalised wedding charm for her to carry during the ceremony, which consisted of a ceramic horse-shoe decorated in bright colours with Mexican-style symbol. So sweet!
I can't believe we've gotten this far without talking about Ana's amazing style! Ana took inspiration from her Columbian heritage with an incredible two-piece dress commissioned by Alice Halliday and fits the vibe of the day perfectly. Ana's neck piece was a creation by Bonzie Designs and it perfectly complements her lacy dress. This stylish bride didn't stop there, she finished off her look with a vibrant bouquet, red lips and a beautiful floral garland headpiece - we have serious style envy in the One Fab Day office!
From the get go, Ana and Ricky knew they wanted to incorporate Ana's Colombian heritage into their ceremony, so they planned a relaxed and very colourful Latin-inspired fiesta. Both Ana and Ricky are big fans of bright colours, so it was full steam ahead for a bright and cheerful wedding celebration, taking inspiration from the Mexican Day of the Dead and decorative religious imagery found in Latin American Catholic churches.
While Ana and Ricky considered getting married in London, they ultimately decided to wed in the bride's family home town in West Cork. They chose the Irish option at Liss Ard Estate, because they had a network of suppliers and craftspeople they knew they could rely on, in addition to the bride's very helpful family!
Liss Ard Estate was an easy choice for the couple,as it was close to Ana's family home and especially close to Ana's heart as she had once worked there as a waitress... An elegant country house set within 200 acres of gardens, with its own woodland and a lake, it was the perfect setting for our celebration and for me it felt like a dream to be planning my own wedding there.
Ana and Ricky called on the talents of Magda Lukas to photograph the day and she captured some beautiful portraits of the couple.
Being as creative and crafty as his bride, Ricky wore mis-match patterns under a navy blazer - I love the star patterned shirt and trelby hat!
Now if you think Ana and Ricky are colourful, wait until you see the reception...
We can't get over the amazing colourful fabric hung across the tent, a simple idea but so effective!
One of the couple's goals was for their guests to be pleasantly surprised with the originality and creativity that had gone into planning the day. Well, if their guests weren't, we certainly are! It's not every day that you see so much colour and arty touches.
In addition to filling their wedding with lots of bright colours, the couple were gifted with a few arty pieces that made the day special. Ana's mother presented the newlyweds with a pair of Greenwood Chairs as their first family heirloom. Her sister, Rosa, commissioned them a Mexican Day of the Dead style skull cake with rainbow sponge from Swell Bakeshop. Plus a gift from Ana's maid of honour and her boyfriend of 12 bottles of home made sloe gin with personalised labels to be shared with the wedding reception guests. Looks like Ana and Ricky's family and friends are equally as creative, such thoughful gifts!
A pinata, I love it!
Ana has practical advice for planning the ceremony of your wedding if you aren't going with a traditional church wedding...If you are creating your own ceremony, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get the wording and logistics right! We were quite ambitious with ours, a humanist ceremony with a three-part structure including a handfasting in an ancient ring fort and vows by the side of a pond, surrounded by trees and at the whim of the tempramental Irish weather, complete with live musical accompaniment. It was slightly chaotic and we hadn't learnt our lines so we ended up reading them off the celebrant's script, which was definitely a bit stressful! But it all worked out in the end and was even more funny and moving than we'd hoped.
Congratulations, Ana and Ricky on your wedding! And thank you to Magda Lukas for sharing the wonderful images of the day, to see more of Magda Lukas' work pop over to www.magdalukas.com
