Romance in an Enchanted Forest: Emily & Peter's Lisnavagh House Wedding

Rich colours and lots of smiles, that's the theme of this wedding

Today's real wedding is wrapped in all the rich hues and wildflowers you could want. The lovely Emily and Peter chose the ever romantic Lisnavagh House as the venue they wanted to say their 'I dos'. The enchanting venue made the perfect backdrop for their relaxed and fun wedding ceremony with 120 friends and family present. The day was all captured by The Lous in what makes for a wedding album bursting with personality and vibrance.

Emily and Peter met when they were just 15 years old in high school. "We were introduced by our mutual friend. Peter and I didn't exactly get along at first, but our first impressions didn't last long," Emily told us of their early days together. "We eventually got over the apprehensions about each other and became really close but it was another six years before we started dating. We were long distance at first while I was in college in Michigan and Peter was in New York before eventually ending up together in LA for the last six years."

It's no surprise then that Peter chose to pop the question to Emily in their home city of Los Angeles. "The night of the proposal, Peter took me to one of our favourite restaurants in the city," Emily told us. "I thought it was just a regular night out until after we ate and Peter told me 'he had been thinking about our future'. Peter was so nervous it didn't cross his mind to tell the restaurant or waiter that he planned to propose. So, right at the exact moment, he pulled the ring out, the waiter came over to ask if we wanted to order dessert! I had to tell them to give us a minute and then Peter asked the important question. The waiter quickly returned with two glasses of champagne to celebrate and no doubt make up for the interruption!"

When it came to wedding planning, the pair had a very clear idea of what they wanted it to feel like. "We knew we wanted it to feel unstuffy, personalised, and enjoyable for everyone," Emily said. "Our priorities were to make sure we had incredible food, drink, dancing, and an all-around great party."

The pair knew they wanted a destination wedding as their friends and family were living all across the globe - and Ireland was top of their list. "As we were putting together our guest list, we quickly realised that any location we landed on would be a destination for our guests, as we had family and friends spread out in more than 20 different U.S. states and different countries like Japan and Italy," Emily said. "We thought to ourselves, you only live once right? Why not do this in Ireland!"

From there, the couple knew that being close to Dublin was a priority, as well as having enough space for guests to stay and have some privacy. "My vision was to have a big house that we could have to ourselves for an entire weekend to help the celebration extend beyond just the wedding day. We wanted something relatively close to Dublin and have accommodations either on-site or nearby for all of our guests. Lisnavagh House checked all of these boxes and had the perfect balance of rustic charm and old-world elegance. I know it’s a cliche, but as soon as I saw photos, I was hooked."

The ceremony was a family affair, with Emily and Peter roping in those nearest and dearest to them to help. "One of our best friends from our home town officiated the wedding, our moms gave a reading together of 'Love Is Friendship Caught Fire', our godmothers gave a reading of an Irish handfasting blessing, and two of our dear friends gave a reading from an episode of Will & Grace, a show we used to binge together in high school. We also had one of our good friends, who is an incredibly talented singer and songwriter, sing our first dance song. It was so much fun interweaving people from different parts of our lives into the day to make it complete."

In the end, the couple described their wedding as "magical". "It's hard to describe how palpable the love and support from our friends and family felt that weekend, but it was everywhere," the pair told us. "The atmosphere was relaxed and Lisnavagh couldn't have been more enchanting. Most importantly, it was FUN!"

It will be no surprise that this couple's advice for others is all about just that - having fun. "Don't forget to have a good time," they tell others. "On the day of, it's not going to be perfect. There will be things you forget but chances are your guests are not going to even notice. Let go, relax and everything will come together beautifully!"

Thanks so much to today's couple Emily and Peter for sharing their gorgeous day with us and to The Lous for capturing the colourful affair.
