Today's real wedding is sweet, stylish, and the perfect example of how to do your day, your way. Kerry couple Sarah and Catriona wanted their celebration to be laid-back and fuss-free, so chose Sol y Sombra Tapas Bar & Restaurant for their simple and understated, yet oh-so-elegant, wedding. Capturing all the love from the day was Emily Doran Photography, scroll down to see why we're loving this couple's style!
So, first things first! How did this lovely pair met? "Our love story in a 6-word piece of prose that even Ernst Hemingway would be proud of - 'Tinder match, struck gold, search over!' For both of us it was our first 'match' and first date on Tinder. One of those crazy moments in life where we both met at exactly the right time. We both took a chance on love and love is exactly what we found."
The couple, along with the help of their friends and family, put a lot of love and work into decorating and organising the wedding. Readings were done by family and friends, Catriona's niece and Sarah's cousin sang songs at the ceremony, as well as some mighty fun guest participation! "We wanted a choir to sing the last song of our ceremony. The song, which we love, was 'After all' by the Frank and Walters. We asked many of our family and friends beforehand if they would be up for it and they all said a resounding 'Yes'. It was a complete success on the day and felt absolutely amazing. We all stood together and belted out the song and they all kept singing as we walked down the aisle as Mrs and Mrs!"
The help from friends and family didn't stop there. The Pampas grass, dried flower arrangements and confetti cones were from Sarah and Catriona's Mum's gardens and were lovingly picked and arranged by their mums and their aunt. "We made our own confetti cones and we handpicked over 50 Hydrangea flower heads from Catriona's Mom's garden and dried them out to make beautiful natural confetti, which we absolutely loved having thrown on us walking down the aisle. This was a real fun highlight of the day!"
"We are still smiling thinking of all our family and friends effortlessly joining in and making our day so special."
Both brides outfits were designed and handmade by House of Delphine. We love how both brides individuality shines through the unique designs, yet tie together beautifully, "It was very important to both of us that we work with an Irish based designer. We wanted what we wore to tell a story, to have us both connected in some way. Sarah was looking for the statement piece, something fun but elegant while Catriona was looking for style and comfort and definitely nothing white."
Sarah & Catriona throughly enjoyed the bespoke design journey, and they tell us how choosing their outfits became a such an important part of their planning process. "On meeting Delphine Grandjouan of House of Delphine and Christine her mother, we just knew that something spectacular was going to be created. Delphine’s intuition and ability to collaborate with us made the whole experience something we will never forget. We loved every moment of it all. Each fitting was like a catch up with old friends. Over the months the designs changed, colours were changed and two of the most amazing pieces were created. We shared the whole experience together and as the outfits evolved; our vision of the wedding became clearer."
The couple had a clear and simple vision for their wedding, "We really did not want to be bound by traditions; we wanted to do it our way so it had meaning to us and was fun and a great party for all our friends and family".
The newlyweds have some sage wisdom to pass on to other couples! "We walked up the aisle together to the Beatles, 'All you need is love' and this sums up our wedding day," they tell us. "You do not need the latest wedding trend to fill your day, all you need is love and to be able to share it with the people you love the most."
The couple add, "Be true to yourself and try not to get caught up in smaller details for fear of things not being good enough. It's the love and the people who make the day so special. Take time together during the build-up the week before the wedding. Savour every moment and soak in all the love. It's such a special time in your life. And invest in an excellent wedding photographer. Memories fade but photos last a lifetime. Our photographer captured the love and fun that filled our wedding day. It oozes out of the photos and it's such a joy to have them."
Sarah and Catriona knew that Sol y Sombra was ‘The One’ from the minute they saw it. "Every bride wants the perfect day but when you have two brides, the level of perfection rises to a whole new level. Sol y Sombra gave us everything we dreamt of and more. This venue has it all! The romance of the old church, the tingling acoustics created from the vaulted ceilings, the beautiful stain glass windows mixed with festival lights and disco ball really makes this venue truly unique and wonderful."
Their glowing review doesn't end there! "The real stars are the team behind the venue. Cliodhna, Katie and Gorka delivered the perfect day. We wanted it all, but we got more. They are so professional in everything they do and helped us choose the right package that best suited our vision. They allowed us the freedom to be creative with the styling of the venue and fully supported our many musical requests throughout the day. ‘All you need is love’ set the tone for the day but the real talking point was the 11 courses of divine tapas we shared. We cannot emphasis enough how incredible the food tasted and how much a conversation piece it was throughout the evening. Food was made for sharing and we shared and laughed and kept eating - course after course. Even the spud-loving gang were pleasantly surprised. People are still talking to us about how amazing the food was."
Reflecting on the day, the couple agree on one thing, "Looking back now there is absolutely nothing that we would change, only a chance to do it all again!"
The couple's cake was lovingly made by their friend Lorraine. After their wedding celebrations, the pair jetted off on their honeymoon. "We went to the city of Dubrovnik and the beautiful island of Hvar," they tell us. "The weather was perfect and after a busy few days in Dubrovnik, we were able to chill out and relax in Hvar. We went off-season in October so the weather is just perfect, and there were less people."
