Love and Magic at Killruddery House: Kimberly & Daniel

This stylish celebration was impossibly elegant and oh-so-personal!

We often come across real weddings that are aesthetically gorgeous, and real weddings that are filled to the brim with super thoughtful, personal details, but Kimberly and Daniel's big day represents a rare intersection of the two! We shared their tear-jerking wedding film by Limelight Wedding Films on Friday, which is a must-watch, if only for the incredible maid-of-honour speech, and, today, we're beyond thrilled to bring you the full set of images by Savo Photography. Their wedding at Killruddery House and Gardens and reception at the venue's rustic Grain Store featured some outrageously pretty details, created by a dream team of wedding suppliers, as well as lots of adorable touches, including a family heirloom! We know you're going to love this one, so let's dive in!

American bride Kimberly and Irish groom Daniel have got the sweetest how-we-met story, which began when they were both living in New York! "I had been on a couple of different dating sites through my single years, but, at this point in time, was on OK Cupid," Kimberly remembers. "After a number of dates, most of them bad, I went online to delete my profile. Right as I hovered over the 'delete' button, I received a message from a guy named Dan. Something made me read it, albeit with a slight eye roll. It was a lovely, if brief, message expressing interest, and asking a couple questions about my profile. Something about the tone of Dan's message and his curiosity was different from the others, so we exchanged numbers and I deleted my profile. He texted me right away to say he'd love to set up a date. We had dinner, and it lasted four hours! I heard from him every day after that and, just over three years later, we were married!"

Daniel proposed to Kimberly on a quiet morning at home. "I was half awake when Dan was rooting around in the closet, and I asked him what he was up to. He returned to bed with the ring and proposed. I said yes, obviously, but was in complete shock. It didn’t hit me until we went for brunch. We walked into our first date spot and were led to the back room where Dan had my closest friends there ready to celebrate. I ugly cried for the next 15 minutes! Then we spent the day drinking bubbly and making phone calls. It was pure magic I’ll never forget."

This couple had an exceedingly busy engagement period! "We chose to get married in Ireland, as Dan grew up in Dublin, and we were planning to relocate from NYC after many discussions. I wouldn't necessarily recommend a move to a new country, wedding planning and job and house-hunting whilst living with your in-laws, but I can't imagine it could have gone any better, and I am so, so grateful to Dan's family and friends for the warm Irish welcome. It truly is a magical place."

It took Kimberly and Daniel no time at all to fall in love with Killruddery House and Gardens. "Two weeks into our move here, we rented a car and drove around looking for venues. In a country this stunning, it was tough to find a bad one. Oddly enough, I had seen a picture of the Orangery from Killruddery on Pinterest and played detective, setting up a meeting to view the space before we even moved! We looked at about five or six other venues but nothing took our breath away or gave us goosebumps like walking into that Orangery. We were sold."

The ceremony was one of the most important parts of the day for this pair. "I loved every minute," Kimberly says, "but the elements where we involved our family and guests were patricularly special. We didn’t have a bridal party, however we still wanted to include our family as part of the ceremony, so we had our mothers do a blessing of the rings, our siblings each read definitions of love, and Dan’s father read a poem. It was incredibly moving to have our family members’ voices and personalities as part of our ceremony. It felt deeply personal and intimate."

Kimberly tells us that the couple's vision for the big day was all about "love and magic. I would describe the look as elegant and sophisticated with old-world grandeur, yet warm and inviting with an intimate, dinner-party feel," Kimberly says. "We talked quite a bit about the tone of the day from ceremony to reception. We wanted intimacy and romance but with light touches and lots of laughter - that’s who we are. And we just wanted to celebrate our love with those we love, along with great food, drinks and music! Our planners nailed it, as did all the vendors. People are still talking about the food and the band!"

The couple brought some personal items with them to the Grain Store, including an antique mirror, which was used as signage, and Kimberly's grandmother's buffet server table, on which the wedding cake was displayed. "My grandmother was grace and elegance personified and this buffet server is the one furniture item I moved with me from Michigan to NY years ago," Kimberly says. "My uncle had no idea I had the table and was absolutely floored and moved to tears when he entered the room and saw it. We are now moved into our house, the mirror sits next to the buffet server in our dining room and I can’t bring myself to erase the calligraphy!"

Kimberly and Daniel worked with some of the top suppliers in the country to bring a touch of luxury to their celebration, including florists Bella Botanica, who created the most beautiful, generous, vintage-style arrangements, and Caroline Goulding Wedding Cake Design, who made a stunning, three-tiered, navy and gold cake for the couple and their guests to devour on the day.

Kimberly's advice to engaged couples is to, "trust your gut and focus on what matters most - that you get to marry your best friend in front of everyone you know and love, who are all there to celebrate your love. It doesn’t matter if it rains, if a kid falls over walking down the aisle, or any other mishap. Everyone is there for you, rooting for your love. Everything else is just details."

Kimberly and Daniel spent their honeymoon in Strandhill in Co. Sligo. "We were there for five days and it rained the entire time! But we had a great time, we went on gorgeous drives, had amazing Guinness and listened to fab live music! I would highly recommend it, even in the rain."
