Set against the backdrop of the impressive country estate, our real wedding couple Julie and Rob exchanged their vows in the idyllic gardens of Borris House, Co Carlow. Featuring a sunbaked outdoor ceremony, a whimsical, nature-filled photoshoot and an unmissable floral-embroidered wedding dress, this couple's dreamy wedding is nothing short of a fairytale! Before diving into the details of their glorious special day, let's get to know the happy couple a bit more! As Julie and Rob both work in healthcare, their paths first crossed during an operation: "with our eyes initially being the only form of communication, there was definitely a spark felt!" After two years of running into each other in different hospitals, the pair went out for their first "unofficial" first date in Waterford followed by their first "official" date in Dublin two days later.
Fast forward four years to Rob's surprise proposal, the two were getting ready to go on their first post-lockdown holiday to the Canaries. With Rob looking a bit upset, he asked Julie for a chat, leading the future bride to think that they were about to discuss cancelling their holiday. "As he started to talk about our families, he got down on one knee and asked me if I’d spend the rest of my life with him!" Celebrating as they packed for their trip, the couple chose to ring their parents as they were the only people who already knew: "Rob had asked my dad for permission and my mum had helped to guide Rob in how to propose, with the phrase “just show it to her” possibly having been used!"
A moment for the dress please! Our glowing bride Julie found her phenomenal colourful floral embroidered House of Savin gown through her mum, who spotted the dress in the window of wedding boutique, Alice May Bridal. Showing the photo of the dress to Rob, he urged her to check it out: "About four months later, I’d made a bridal appointment and it was the first dress I tried on, the colours were gorgeous and the style fit perfectly with Borris House."
Pairing her fabulous dress with glittering Christian Louboutin heels and a soft-pastel makeup look by Niamh Martin Makeup, Julie completed her ensemble with a pair of Oscar de la Renta earrings and an antique diamond pendant she had received as a gift from her parents for her 21st birthday. Alongside her Cartier Love Band wedding ring, in a wonderfully heartfelt addition to their special day, a stone from Rob's late mother's engagement ring was incorporated into Julie's engagement ring.
With the father-of-the-bride sporting a dapper custom Louis Copeland navy suit, Julie and her dad had a heartwarming first-look before the ceremony began!
How adorable is Julie's nephew who took on the role of page boy on the day? "My nephew Caius-John was our page boy and walked up with my sister at the front of the bridal party! He wore a tux and bow-tie, with little black Gazelles from Adidas. He stole the show with his outfit and big smile!"
In a sunshine-filled ceremony solemnised by Bernadette Dolan, Julie and Rob exchanged their vows surrounded by 74 of their closest friends and family members. Against the backdrop of an epic floral arch that vibed effortlessly with Julie's style choice, she made her way down the aisle to I’m Kissing You by Des’ree, carrying a beautiful rose and peony bouquet by Fernwood Flowers. With the styling of their day in the capable hands of Blue Blossom Creative, the couple's "country-chic" wedding theme was meadow and pastel inspired - with their pretty colour palette taking from Julie's showstopping vibrant floral gown.
Aspiring to put their own stamp on their wedding day, Julie and Rob, who had given themselves a year to plan, included some incredibly personal touches including custom M&M’s for everyone’s rooms, personalised napkins, wooden sailboats and ponies in a nod to Julie's pet horses and Rob's love of sailing, a bathroom box and - "giving the most luxurious scent to remember the day by", personalised Rathbornes candles were dotted around the venue.
Julie's bridesmaids wore matching dusty-rose gowns paired with elegant white and pastel blue hydrangea bouquets, complementing the blue hue of Rob's suit and the florals in the bride's wedding gown.
Kicking off their celebrations with a fabulous Veuve Clicquot champagne tower, the couple's reception went on to include signature "Romeo and Juliet" cocktails and plenty of photos in front of their customised LED wedding sign which bore their new married monikers. Julie and Rob's first dance was to Al Green's Let's Stay Together which was sung live making it so special.
Julie and Rob had this advice for couples embarking on their own wedding planning journey: "Have your non-negotiable parts of the day which you really want to focus time, energy and money on. Tick those boxes and you will have the day you want!"
Sliced with a sword no less, Julie and Rob's impressive three-tier wedding cake brought another personal element to the couple's wedding day. "Our cake was homemade by my mother and made to the exact size and recipe as my mother’s own wedding cake and my grandmother's before that."
After all of their busy wedding festivities, Julie and Rob took a well deserved trip to Ibiza, staying in Hotel Garbi in Playa d'en Bossa for their honeymoon. "It was a holiday of a life time that we both wanted to do for years before ever meeting... We had the best holiday exploring the island and its hidden beaches, eating in amazing restaurants and unwinding from the most amazing wedding!"
A very special thank you to Julie, Rob and Foran & Sauvage for sharing this wonderful wedding with One Fab Day. There are also plenty more gorgeous photos from their stunning special day to check out in the gallery below!
